Default Priest Macro setup

Ok this is driving me nuts.

I run 4 priests and a warrior. What I run into is that Smite normally takes out mobs fast enough to not even warrant using master.

The problem is that does not work to well for elites or when its multiple mobs since they die pretty easy.

What i need is a heal macros for each one that can target each char in group without drawing to much aggro to one by himself.

I have the basic heal one set up to HoT on warrior and Lesser Heal him that is used by all priests. But how do i go about making them target only those that need help? Anyone have the best setup for something like this. Using pwnboxer if that helps.

btw i got all 5 toons now on Blackrock starting

I am going to assume you are using Pwnboxer. There are a couple of ways to do this. I used to use numberpad keys and I simply made a macro for each toon, by name, that would renew and then flash heal. Another method is just one key like this:

/castsequence [target=targettarget] reset=combat Renew, Flash Heal, Greater Heal

With this macro you would have your tank target whoever needs the heal, hit your heal button and the person that your tank had targeted will get a renew (up to four, depending on how many of your toons you set to heal with). Hit is again they get Flash Heal, one more press and they get Greater Heal. After combat it will reset.

Holy spec doesn't fix this problem. The troubles with holy spec are 1) mana issues 2) lots of overhealing. Holy can be handy at 80 with decent gear but disc works much better. Disc spec allows you to dps and heal when needed but disc talents center around reducing damage taken.

You could go with a heal party macro like this:

#show Renew
/targetparty
/cast Renew

It starts with the nearest party member (that is not you) and cycles outwards until all have been hit. Important Note: This macro will never target yourself. And once you've cast on the four toons, the next cast is on the closest toon again.

You can also go with assist based heals.
Have your priests assist the warrior and then heal based on [help] conditionals.

#show
/assist [target=WarriorName]
/cast [help] Renew; [help, target=targettarget] Renew

This is basically what Necrimus is mentioning above. If the warrior targets a friendly, then you can direct your heals. If the target is hostile, then it goes to whatever the mob is beating on. If you'll use this in pvp, then add a third condition for target=targettargettarget, which will work when your warrior targets a horde who is targeting a horde; example attacking the druid who is healing the rogue who is on your <insert>. You can use this format of macro for all your heals.

Spec your priests Discipline, you won't be disappointed. Disc puts out a lot more damage then any other healer spec healer toon. And it has very effective heals and damage reduction tools. You can Pain Suppression and PW: Shield on round-robin, and Penance is a very strong heal. You'll want to use strobe follow (Jamba) with Penance. Mana Burn x4 will be painful for opposing casters, not to mention mouse broadcasting Mass Dispel x4.

Break mobs into 3 categories:

a) Dead before they get to the warrior; pretend you are just four priests, melting faces etc.

b) Elites or other hard hitters; I'd go with SW: Pain and Devouring Plague on whatever the warrior is targeting, and maybe Renew x4. The warrior will hold threat if you start with dots.

c) Swarms of weaker things; Holy Nova is mana inefficient, but with 4x priests casting, each only needs to cast a quarter as much, and its no threat generated. The warrior can use Aoe moves. Down the road, Mind Seer is a strong option, possibly OP with 4x.

Thanks all, just what i was looking for.

Any thoughts on x5 druid only team? Would that actually be better than warrior for self heals and totems? I suspect it might just because with other setup priests would always get more aggro and would be missing lots of damage potential.

For my druid tank and four shamans, I have the following 3 healing macros for levelling.

1. Heal self. All shamans heal themselves
2. two of the shamans heal tank - two other ones nuke
3. the other two shamans heal tank - two other ones nuke

2 & 3 This will always heal my tank fully and provides some redundancy if one of the shamans fails to cast for whatever reason (movement, mana). DPS is still somewhat maintained as the remaining two will nuke. I have two macros to spread out the heals to keep mana somewhat the same across of four shamans.

Does [target=targettarget is that just one name together or i have to separate them with something? I was thinking it was [target=abcd] or is it [target=a;b;c;d]?

[target=Bob] will explicitly target a player called Bob.
[target=target] will target your current target (kinda dumb)
[target=targettarget] will target the target of your target
[target=focustarget] will target the target of your focus

[Target=TargetTarget] Gets you the target of your current target. This is generally a strong attack option for spell based toons who are using a Target based system, where they always target the lead/active toon.

For heals, you generally want to double up on the conditions and use the [Help] conditional as well.

For example:
/assist [target=TankName]
/cast [help] Renew; [help, target=targettarget] Renew

In this macro, we have our priest assist our Paladin/Bear etc. The first condition which is "true" will execute. So if our tank is targeting a friendly, the Renew fires off. However, if our tank is targeting a hostile, then the first condition is "false" and it attempts the second condition, which will have the Renew hit the target of our tanks target, but only if that is friendly too. In PvP, we would add one extra targeting condition [help, target=targettargettarget] but the above is great for PvE action.
