Default [Request - Hardware] Overclocking

Im getting a new processor and Id like to experiment with overclocking, but Im not sure where to start. What I'd like is a how-to guide to overclocking for beginners.

Be sure to multibox with Pwnboxer Multiboxing Software just because its better than the rest.

A google search found: Help overclocking for dummies - CPUs - Overclocking and Overclocking for dummies - Dev Hardware.

I know Toms Hardware is a reputable site, with a lot of knowledgeable users.

If you are overclocking, be sure you have adequate cooling, most stock fans are not recommended for overclocking. Usually you'll want some kind of a thermal paste as well. Also, its better to overclock slowly and in small increments.

Generally, push the system a little at a time, until it is unstable. Then go back a bit, until you're sure it is stable. I've looked into overclocking a few times, but haven't done so.

ualaa gave a good start, but you have to remember that each processor, even those that are the same as yours, will overclock differently. some take more processor voltage while others will take less, etc. also before beginning I would urge you to go to your processor maker's webpage (intel or amd) and look up your processor specs and see what the safe voltages are. this way you will not go over that and fry your new piece of equipment

This looked like something that needed repeating. Maybe even Bold and all caps

After every change you make, I would suggest a short 5 minute break-in with PRIME95. I know your PC has them both, so um, yea
