Default [WoW Guide] Valrot's Shamans Guide

Hey guys, I recently started a new multiboxing group, a dual shammy group. I thought i would use this thread to update with some hints and tips I pick up as I level.

Tip #1: Get pwnboxer!
Can't say it enough, this program is amazing!

First things first, for the beginner shamans are a great choice, I recommend speccing elemental simply because while using pwnboxer it is much easier to do casting and ranged then it is to do melee. Multiboxing melee in general is tougher than casters.

Why Shaman are a great choice for multiboxing:

This is a question which comes up a lot, why shaman and not mages? There are many reasons for choosing a shaman over another class such as mages or balance druids.
-Self Resurrection, shaman are the only class who have this and trust me it can be put to great use. Couple this with the ability to rez your party and you have an easy reset after any wipe.
-Totems, totems, totems Who doesn't love some healing, mana regen, dps boost, or an assortment of other buffs?
-Astral Recal. Yes we all get our hearth every 30 min now, but who wouldn't love being able to hearth every 15? get the glyph of astral recal (minor glyph) and you are able to do this every 7.5 minutes!
-Ghost Wolf, besides looking sweet, this is a awesome way to get around, sure druids get travel form, but up until 3.2 that doesn't happen till 30. You can pick up this sweet ability at level 20 (pre 3.2) and if you so choose to put 7 points in the enhancement tree later on, you can have the cast for this be instant!

Importance of bags:

A rule for any character ever, bags, bags, bags. Bag space is so incredibly important at the lower levels so don't be afraid to buy a bag or two if you can spare the money. And if you have a main who can buy stuff for you, get netherweave bags, they are cheap for the number of slots, and 4 of them should make you have enough space to do a lot of questing before having to return to town.

Professions:

I currently am only using proffs. on my main character. I choose enchanting (basically a must for at least on of your characters, helps ya gain a lot more cash from DEing greens that no one needs) and skinning because of the ease of just skinning mobs as you kill them. An alternate choice is to do enchanting on an alt and do two gathering professions on the main. Keep in mind gathering professions do not help much if your are only leveling through running instances.

Totems:
-One little trick is with beneficial totems (stoneskin, strength of earth, etc.) something I like to do is to use two different totems on one keybind, your whole party can not benefit from two stoneskin totems, so why bind them both to the same key on your shamans and waste mana when you could have armor and a stat and not just armor. Do this for all the different types of totems (Earth, Fire, Water, Air) and you got yourself a nice little light show going on, not to mention buffs.
-Once you reach level 20 and beyond set up your one click totem calling for all your shamans. This will be a huge time saver and allow you to kill things that much faster.
-When placing totems try to place them near a large group of mobs so that you are not having to continue to place and return. This seems like a very simple concept, but if you were not doing this before it should help you conserve a ton of mana.
-MIX UP YOUR TOTEMS! I can't say this enough. You often can not benefit from multiples of the same totem.
-HEaling stream totems are one of the exceptions, you can benefit from more than one of them. Thus, multiple Healing Stream totems are great for conserving mana, and keep you dishing out damage rather than using your mana to heal yourself
-Have one of your shamans use a tremor totem, it is a life saver

Random Tip Time:

-Pick up the astral recall glyph for your shamans.
-Why set both your shamans to earth shock at the same time? you are using this spell for interrupting your target's spell casting, instead of binding one key to do two earth shocks, why not try one earth shock and a flame shock?
-Frost shock is a great tool for being able to get in more spells before a mob reaches you, don't be afraid to use it.
-Up to level 20, water is your best friend, don't be afraid to stock up before you go questing.
-At level 20 as an elemental shaman I try to keep up my water shield whenever possible. This is such a life saver when you run into a fight where you would run out of mana normally.
-Ghost Wolf is your friend, use it, love it, enjoy how cool looking it is.
-Flametougue Weapon is the most useful weapon buff for the leveling elemental shaman.

*Number one thing I have learned so far*: Totem Quests are the biggest pain I have ever seen...

I will add more as I come across other things which may be useful.

My Usual Totem Choices: I am only level 28 so far, so I do not have an air totem yet, will update when I get there.

Fire: 1 Flametongue Totem/ 1 Searing Totem: Who doesn't love extra damage and spell power?

Water: 1 Mana Spring / 1 Healing Stream Totem (2 if needed): You can benefit from multiple healing stream totems but only 1 mana spring totem, so I use one of each.

Earth: 1 Earthbind / 1 Stoneskin Totem: Results in armor, and helps with those mobs who like to run away.
(you can substitute in a Stoneclaw Totem for the Stoneskin Totem for pulls with multiple mobs, but I find with just two shamans I kill most things before they get to me if I only pull one enemy)

When running with multiple shamans you should defeneatly mix your totems. On order to save time and a lot of keys, I have use only ONE key to set out all my 20 totems.

This is how it works:
Code:
1: /castsequence reset=15 Healing Stream Totem, Grounding Totem, Searing Totem, Stoneclaw Totem
2: /castsequence reset=15 Healing Stream Totem, Grounding Totem, Searing Totem, Stoneclaw Totem
3: /castsequence reset=15 Healing Stream Totem, Grounding Totem, Searing Totem, Stoneclaw Totem
4: /castsequence reset=15 Healing Stream Totem, Stoneskin Totem, Wrath of Air Totem, Totem of Wrath
5: /castsequence reset=15 Mana Spring Totem, Tremor Totem, Grounding Totem, Flametongue Totem
The totem is quit old (from lvl 71 or something like that) ... but you get the idea and can accomondate it for your setup (with 4 shamans and a tank you probably want to swith stuff around abit).

Also note: Only stack totems of the same sort if you KNOW that they will stack. Like mana totem will not stack for instance.

Hey guys, I will be quite on this thread for a month or so, my family is currently in the process of moving and my PC that can handle multiple versions of WOW is packed away. Hope to share some more tips when I get it set back up.

I made 4 Shamans Elem DPS and 1 Pally Pro Tank(Main) (with HealBot Addon on pally)

This combo is working out very well, lots and lots of buffs, pretty un kill able so far

I did make a key bind macro on all my shamans to /target Pally /Cast healing spell
Also Use lower rank healing spells if all 4 shamans are healing pally, however i hardly use healing skill, prob later in a game i change 1 shaman to heal bot on main, but so far its not needed.

The new call of totem spammage in 3.2 will actually elimate to mass-totem macro and make things even more stream-lined . Looking forward to more when youre up and running again.
