| Generally easier to ask for a list, with several things on it, and then pick from it for others; that way, its a surprise what they get, but its something they want too. Anyway, relatives have asked me to make a couple of lists, mine includes: WoW/Computer related: - Windows 7, Home Premium 64-bit. - Patriot Torqx, 64gb SSD. Dungeons & Dragons: - Draconomicon: Metallic Dragons - The Plane Below: Secrets of the Elemental Chaos DVD's: - G.I. Joe - Star Trek - Terminator Salvation - Transformers II |

| Senior Member | I'm with Ualaa. We all make lists (on both sides of the family, his & mine) and distribute among the family (Grandparents, Great-Grands, Aunts/Uncles). That way if my Mom calls and asks what the hubby wants or my Mother-in-Law calls and asks what my Mom has bought for one of the kids, there's no confusion, everyone gets at least something they wanted and no one gets two of something (that happened alot when the kids where babies). Actually, we keep these lists going throughout the year. Makes birthdays, mother's/father's day all super easy. We keep runnings lists at Target/Amazon/Toy'sRUs and our lists have our clothing sizes on them, in case some one is shopping and sees something that they think we might like. I love christmas and usually go WAY overboard, not so much this year with me not working and all the doctor's bills I'm still paying from my Cancer diagnosis earlier this year. I usually blow close to $3-4k for christmas. My family is small (just us 4) but I have to buy for my Mom, Dad, Sister + something small for her "flavor of the month guy", I also have to buy for Jas' HUGE family. 6 nieces/nephews, 8 cousins, his bother's family of 4, his parents, and grandparents. This year my budget is about $500-800 so I'm still struggling to get everyone taken care of, so you probably wont see me multiboxing at the end of the month (priorities, family first) =) My personal list isnt big, just a few dvds/cds/games and a couple of decorating things for the house that I'd like to have. The kid's lists are HUGE but most of the stuff on them we've gotten them throughout the past year. When you're faced with the possibility dying (as I was earlier this year) and can distract a child from thinking about it, you tend to buy something shiney to keep their minds occupied. They are both getting DSi's and mini Dell laptops. That's there big gifts. My mom and mil bought the laptops and my sister split the DSi's with me. A few little odds and ends. I know my mom has helped the girls "make" something (gawd I hope it doesn't explode or eat my shoes) for Jas & I for Christmas this year. Really all our lists have one thing in common: Everyone together and healthy/happy Christmas morning =) That turned into a wall of text.... but I hope you guys/gals al get what you want and have a happy and safe holiday, no matter what you celebrate. |
