Default Security with Windows 7

This is the deal, I own a XP machine and I never run into a virus or security problem..

Now I have another computer with windows 7 and I read so much about people suggesting using a guest account for normal operations and the administrator account to install stuff...

(Windows 7) I already raised the UAC to the max, and I really don't mind to put the admin password each time I install something, also I'm using the same antivirus and malware protection software that I use in the XP Machine.. Am I going be safe? or Windows 7 has worse security problem than XP?

In XP I'm fine, but with Windows 7 I'm super paranoid that something is going happen..

Any suggestion?

Most of it is hyped in order to sell more security/antivirus products and to be honest, majority of the ones in the 'residential field' are crap.

I do IT consultancy for several small / medium companies and in those environments use Trend antivirus products and swear by them. Security is managed through hardware firewalls/routers.

For the home environment, I don't use anything. I don't have any firewalls or antivirus on my home machine, have UAC on minimum, have most stuff turned off. I've not had a virus or security concern since 486 days. Most of your important information - such as banking details, etc - are done through HTTPS websites anyway, which is secure.

Prevention is as good as a cure - that is, be aware of what links you're clicking on online, and keep your Windows Updates up to date. You can run WUAUCLT.exe /DETECTNOW to force your computer to find next set of updates if it hasn't on it's own.

PS: It is good practice to use non-administrator account for normal activity.
