A PVP system that is deeply integrated with the world. Perhaps making most of the outerfringe towns either player created or player controlled. I think my ideal system would be an emulation of EVE Online's system. Simply having a few core areas controlled by NPC factions that only serve to cradle the beginners while they learn, then the majority of the world is player-run.

We had a HUUUGE discussion on it in the JTV video stream. I like to toy around with the idea of raising some funding and putting together a team and building a MMO. Who knows, maybe, but the ideas behind it would really be important.

I think the Player-Run part might be sketchy, You would have to have some moderators to help keep the balance and to help keep the economy running. Take WoW for example, It isnt player-run and we still have economy issues with farmers and whatnot. in a few words, Very Very Difficult

Of course, i'd be talking about open-ended free-for-all PVP. No factions, attack anyone. If you try to roflstomp someone in the protected areas, you'll get smacked around by an uber-powerful guard NPC. When you're outside the protected zones, its every-man-for-himself. EVE's system encourages the formation of guilds and is pretty much the best chance for survival. This is a natural occurance in this type of PVP setup. Look up the stories of the zombie event for the WotLK launch.

In servers where it was embraced on both sides of the fight, you saw both an overrunning of the cities and the banding together of players not infected. I even heard a story where the Stormwind Cathedral was turned into a no-zombie area reminiscent of the Alamo simply through the concentrated efforts of players that wanted to take part in the event but didn't want to run around as a zombie. Which is probably one of the coolest stories I heard coming out of WoW.

Its my belief that if you let the playerbase loose on itself, you'll find that like-minded groups will form naturally as a means of safety and self-control. I dont mind the concept of two-faction PVP (ala WoW), but there's something to be said for allowing the playerbase to form the faction lines themselves instead of artificially creating them at the start. I certainly hope that Blizzard embraces this concept in their new MMO.
