| My current family's ISP is Charter. For some reason for the past three years they haven't listened to anything I have told them (IM A FUTURE CS MAJOR FOR GODSAKE!!!!) about Charter. My mom refused my help EVEN THOUGH she was being led on by their off shore TS into paying for a technician to come out and check things. Now I know he is going to say nothing wrong because he isn't going to do anything except do a power cycle. Even though I know the problem is in the modem (7 yo) not in the E net or the Coax. We should be getting 8 down and 1 up and we are and have been getting 1.5-.28 down and 1 up. SOOOOO my dad finally decided to get a different ISP. He is thinking U-Verse My suggestions are Clear or Comfail (i know) What are you guys suggestions? Saint Louis, MO P.S. I 99.8% sure Charter made a bot to throttle me whenever i turn on private browsing or a game P.P.S. Im also 99% sure they only give you service if you pay above a certain amount for internet (above $49.99) /rant

| hmm if you have the money to spend, try getting a new cable modem from the store that charter supports (should be most) and call them to hook it up and see if that helps. I know you SHOULD NOT have to pay that money for something they should fix, but dealing with tech support when you are not the "account holder" does not work too well. I am also a charter subscriber, the service has been decent for me, except the last few months I been having slow speeds myself (after i switched back to the default modem the service came with). So I have not been able to reach a resolution with my speed issue. Charter keeps saying there is no throttling happening on my line, but they say and do two different things :P but if you want change providers. here is a nice site of cable internet providers and they are ranked with letter grades "A+ through F". i'll give you the link for the ISP search Find Broadband Service Now - dslreports.com good luck man |

| Make sure you do your speed testing at a site like speedtest.net. Some sites throttle their transfer speeds(all the time or once you exceed a certain amount of usage, of course ISPs can do this as well). As for suggestions I do not suggest comcast. I switched about 4 months ago from comcast to Verizon and it's been so much better. I know it's between Clear and Comcast but I've never heard of Clear (Live on east coast) |
