| Senior Member | This game used to be called "Heroes of Telara" but was recently renamed and their website has gone through an overhaul. While looking at the trailer I get a sense of an Everquest feeling, that if EQ was done right, this would be that game.... visually stunning, an epic feel to it. I don't know about you but in WoW, I never felt in danger or any type of PVE epicness... I have for a long time watched this game in development... and with it seemingly turning the corner and getting closer to being in my hands.... I am completely psyched. This game will be imho a contender if they present it right. Anywho check out the trailer, read the info and discuss!!! ![]() Rift: Planes of Telara - Home |

| Nothing is on top forever. It certainly looked like Everquest would be the top game, and then along came Warcraft. There will always be new games. One of them might catch on and become the game. World of Warcraft isn't even the top game; Lineage II has more then double its number of subscribers. |

But, just out of curiosity, where are you getting the Lineage 2 subscriber numbers? A reference to back up your claim would be nice =D Well certainly Blizzard made a buttload of money from WoW, and I've heard rumors that they are working on another mmorpg IP separate from WoW. (from an interview I found online) && about WoW. Longest Blizzard continues to release new content regularly, there's no cause for concern. Regardless, Blizzard is going to make tons off Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 when those arrive =D Don't forget WoW's Cataclysm, revival of dead accounts? LOL =D we shall see && about your statement "Nothing is Top forever?" I thought Blizzard's Starcraft, was and still is the #1 RTS ever made and it revolutionized the genre =) (Many critics I've read agree to this) There are few other games I can name as well... You probably don't agree with me but this is my 2 cents. - Joey Last edited by Joey007; 05-11-2010 at 11:38 PM. | |

| NCSoft, who made/runs Lineage II reports 17 million accounts. Here's a link: NCsoft Reveals The Kamael, the Largest Lineage II Expansion | NCsoft (2nd paragraph) World of Warcraft has more then half. 11.5 / 17 = 67.647%. I'd agree WoW is the number one game (online RPG for sure, possibly any game and any genre) in North America and Europe. In 2004 Everquest I, was the top online RPG ever, with 1 million plus subscribers. They were up to eight of their current sixteen expansions when Warcraft entered the scene. EQ had 50x the player base of the next largest game in the genre, and they certainly did not stop making content or lore. That didn't stop Warcraft from surpassing Everquest. And Warcraft's current numbers will not prevent another game from eventually offering a better product. I don't know what that game is, or what the appeal will be, but like a sports record, given enough time everything is surpassed. I've played every product Blizzard has released, and will likely try everything they ever release. The company certainly has an amazing track record. Starcraft was very balanced, with a counter to every strategy, and a counter to every counter... but it probably wasn't the top selling RTS game of 2009. It might have been the favorite RTS of the majority of gamers, if they could only choose one game in the genre. Starcraft II has a very good shot at surpassing it in total sales. |

| I'm open to try out new MMOs. When LotRO came out, I tried that for a couple of months and about 40 levels. Same with Champions Online, that game is actually quite fun. But I always come back to WoW, as does many of my friends after various time-outs. WoW just has this superior draw, be it the enormous span and complexity or just an overall sense of superior quality. I'm definitely gonna play Guild Wars 2 though. That game looks absolute awesome, and looks to be a real MMO this time around, unlike its predecessor.

| Senior Member | It will probably be the NextGen "Secret Unannounced" MMO that Bliz is working on that will eventually dethrone WoW. That is my 2 copper =)

| Senior Member | Eventually sure as technology advances then there is no doubt it will be dethroned, but for now every MMo we are seeing while they differ in many ways its basically the same thing, i don't think until we see something massively change the way we game, and i mean massively, its going to be a while. sure graphics are getting better, but even the graphics coming with cataclysm are still dated by years, so its obviously not the graphics what are keeping people playing, the content is good and there are masses of it, but there are masses in the other mmos that are about. at the moment the only thing that holds up wow in my view is its consistency and marketing, we now what to expect from blizzard and while we complain through the nose about there service, inside we know there doing a bloody good job, and will continue to do so. how many other companies could get Mr T. to advertise for them >.<. So until we are seeing 3d virtual worlds that we can step into and companies are forced to move forward with technology i for see wow holding the throne for a while longer. |
