I play WoW for the story. But if Im playing for the story, I dont want a mundane grindfest superceding that experience. Granted WoW has a ton of timesinks, but thats mostly busy work for me while there isnt something else to do.

ok ok its the lore to wow! the lichking is a big part off the wow story and blizzard made it more in wotlk becouse noone was reading the quest so they added cutsceens for you to watch!

Aside from the overarching Burning Legion, Scourge, Titan, old gods, ect... story most zones do have a storyline if you actually read the quests. Early on Alliance side I know you have the big VC quest line and I always remember Stalvan storyline but it's nothing without reading the diary pieces in addition to the quest text.

Admittedly weaker told than other MMOs. Personally I think GW did it better than Aion with the story cutscenes and I think Warhammer has done it the best with quest line stories.

Anyway back to Aion, I played it for a bit but it is indeed an Asian MMO grindfest with it's PvE still stuck in the dark ages(WoW is light years ahead when it comes to designing boss encounters).

The sound and music in Aion is excellent though and for me it was the best part

Tigole told about this in a recent interview, how the quests in vanilla had a heavy weight placed on reading everything to follow the story. In WotLK (and noticeably in TBC), they started using NPC dialouge and cutscenes to tell part of the story. I think that it really has enhanced it over time.
