| When you get Pwnboxer does it only last 1 year or the upgrades for 1 year

You get free updates for the first year. Tim mentioned there would be a reduced renewal fee for users of PB. Not sure if it is a subscription model, where use expires. Or if you can continue to use the last version which you were licensed for. Sorry, not really an answer there for you.

Hey there, the license to use the software is for 1 year which includes every update/upgrade/anything that gets added to PB.

After the year, can the software be used without renewal of the license? IE, without future upgrades, etc.. And how much is a renewal of the Pwnboxer license? Or is it the same price as buying it initially?

It is on a 1 year license, so when the license runs out, you'd want to renew. The rest of the details themselves you would want to check the Pwnboxer site or your email for things like special offers and specific details. When the PB 3.0 comes out, or shortly around there, I'll be offering renewals at a pretty steep discount (and of course current license holders upgrade to PB for free).

Same deal as other subscription software then, which honestly is very fair. Take a static product, where you pay once and then are done. So much development went into the product, and you reimburse the author/owner for their time, effort, etc, because the product does what you want. However, the product is not likely to improve over time, or only to such a degree that it is sort of competitive with others to entice new users to pick it. Bug fixes would be sporadic for the most part, unless the program totally broke in which case you might be out of luck or the program might get an update - but that is probably aimed at attracting new users. Not saying that fits everyone, but probably fits some. The subscription provides ongoing remuneration to the owner/author of the program. It is an incentive to continue to provide the best product possible, which includes quick fixes for problems, strong support and such. With a steady stream of income from the product, constant improvements whether major features or minor tweaks are very likely. The license is usually for a year, and is comparable to a static products license, which is a drop in the bucket compared to the subscription fees for the game... $20-35 for a year subscription (depending on the product) versus $900 for 5-box warcrafting per year. But you pay for what you get; with an ongoing subscription, you're paying for superior support and a product that evolves and improves regularly.

I find that if you have to pay for a subscription for a program like pwnboxer, then you're likely to have better quality overall with use, support, and usability. I've tried to get the free ones, but they all seemed difficult to setup, so I was pretty sold on pwnboxer.

On a fun note about subscriptions, this provides funding to help expand the development of Pwnboxer. For example, I just recently hired somebody part-time to help with it and am looking to hire somebody on a more semi-full time basis. To me personally, Pwnboxer isn't about selling a bazillion copies and hording cash. It is about building an awesome program for multiboxers, and re-investing funds back into Pwnboxer to constantly expand its growth into new features. Take Pwnboxer 3.0. I have a list (I believe it is up to 26 major items) getting added. Ends up I bit off waaaaaaay more than I can chew. As a result I've added on a member to the team on a part-time basis and am actively looking to add somebody on long term. Stuff like this can be pretty costly, and the subscription helps out.
