| As per Tim and everyone else's advice i finally ditched AMD and went for an i7. And I couldn't be happier. After a nasty 6 hour rebuild it's all back up and running. And to my surprise, I didn't even have to reinstall Windows 7. I found a guy that lives near me that had an ASUS Rampage II GENE with an i7-920 and 9 gigs of ram for sale for $300 and couldn't turn the offer down. Even at stock clocks this thing is a beast from what I was using. It boxes like a dream. Im gonna turn up the juice tonight and check out that ASUS CPU Level Up and see how far I can take it. From what i have read though 3.8Ghz seems to be the limit on these chips though. But for 300 bucks ya cant beat it.

| I've got an i7 920, which is the slowest of the i7's. And have only run this at stock speed. Warcraft is so processor intensive, much more so than video... And this is never my bottleneck. If you have enough system ram (5-box, might need 6GB). Processing power is usually the next bottleneck. Although adding an SSD (even a cheap one, purely for the gaming folder), can be a substantial boost too. People are still 5-boxing successfully on 8800 GTX's. |

| That still is not a bad board. I will be getting another board for this one as its a base model rampage. might go with the rampage 3. i dont want to over clock this one too much because it doesnt have a mosfet cooler on it. i might pick one up though for the time being just to play around.

| I see people posting new systems either here or on dual boxing, and am always tempted at a better system. But really, even in failed Org raids (For the Alliance), with 1.5 raids of 85's plus enough Horde in with the warchief that we cannot kill him and them... my system can easily handle it. So I don't need an upgrade; but they're always tempting. The new i5 2500k and i7 2600k systems... I assume would require a new motherboard, but hopefully the ram would work. My video card is slowly dying, and my storage hard drive which seemed huge (500gb) isn't so big with 50 odd movies on it. I have an SSD for warcraft, but am tempted with a larger one for both the OS and Warcraft. But don't really need any of that, aside from a video card eventually. |

| WoW $300 bucks, that is one helluva deal. With that amount of RAM, I'd gander that maybe you could even do more than 5? The new 2600k systems are massive. I benchmarked a few things, and with enough RAM, I believe you could run >50 copies of WoW. |

| Asus Rampage II Gene + i7-920 + 9GB DDR3 = $300.oo? Mine:locally (i7-2600K + Biostar TP67XE P67 B2) x 2 = $580.oo ($290.oo per combo) no RAMs though Key: Disgruntled Wife about Husband's electronics addiction. WIN? Now, my mint Asus Rampage III Extreme x58 ROG (accessories + mobo + different box though accounted for and present) needs a new home. If anyone in here is shopping around, just putting it out there! I'm passing my accounts to my brother as I think I am outgrowing the game. Last edited by qwertykop; 04-01-2011 at 11:55 AM. |

| Yeah I seriously need an upgrade, I have all 5 accts with no graphics boost, minimal addons, and i get 15-20 fps in org on a clear day when the kids are home from school (basically anywhere from 1-2k people probably in org taking up latency) I think i'm going to shop around (NCIX where else!) for a new board, i7 processor, and at least 16gig ram. May keep what I have already but they're just 2x2g sticks. A SSD Drive to move the OS onto, and wow would be Ideal too, but I'll see what the cost comes to with the essentials first. May pickup a couple HDD's too just to move some of the smaller disks onto just to free up space, and expand available storage. Gets my heart beating just thinking about shopping for new hardware!!! |
