Default Tim's next processor?

Intel announces 48 core CPU. Imagine how many WoWs can be run on that (with a good amount of RAM)

Quite a ways off.
They're releasing a chip with six processors soon.

I wonder how much a 48 core CPU would run today.
And chances are, you'd need a custom motherboard and massive ram.

I'm guessing they'll be 48 super weak and cheap processors but together they'll form Voltron.

Never mind that, Nvidia next GPU out next year will have that, SLI and QUAD sli setup will be deemed not worthy anymore. With ability for each GPU to run independent of each other. Word is that the high end card will have 8! HDMI ports in in for 8 monitors!

Ugh... This is going to be turning into some crash one-uping war. The market becomes exponentially more niched as you add more monitors. Of course, people always want the "best" which means "more" and sometimes means "way more than anyone will use... ever"... but its the "best".

Then again. 8 monitors = 1 monitor per guy (5 boxing team), one for the stream, one for browsing the forums and one for a leveling guide or something else.

The potential for 6 or 8 monitors on one card is nice.

If you have an actual use for them, and if you have a processor & video card, which won't lag to hell, rendering that much screen space.

What I would love to see is a single, super-high resolution monitor that would use multiple HDMI inputs. Like say a 3860x2400 monitor (equivalent to 4 1920x1200 monitors in a box setup). That would be epic.

Don't nvidia cards have like 256 cores themselves these days? I read a website somewhere showing PI calculations on a Nvidia GTX 260 and it was something like 40 times the speed of a Intel i7 920.
