| I had a Quad Core (Q6600) at 3.02 ghz and went to an i7 (920) at 2.66 ghz. Both are/were stock speed. The i7 doesn't get to more then 30% of CPU resources, when 5-boxing. The Q6600 was often at 100% of resources. It is day and night, the i7 is completely smooth in areas where the Q6600 struggled. The ram was not capped out on either system, but the newer ram is much faster which has an effect too. At the time of the upgrade, the only components which had changed were CPU, Motherboard and Ram. |

Ah ok, so in your opinion, the i7920 is far more efficient than the q6600 at 5 boxing? | |

| It boils really down to this: If you are building on a budget but want a fast PC, get an i5. If you have about $300 more to spend and want a really fast PC, get an i7. If you have about $900 more to spend and want a BOMB PC, get an i7 extreme. |

| everything looks ok except the memory, i5 use ddr3 memory in dual channel mode, so you need 2x2GB of memory or more depending on your budget. as for watercooling, you really do not need to go that route unless you do some extreme overclocking or some serious system stressing. |

| Senior Member | i see, well i dont plan on doing any overclocking myself so i guess we can drop the liquid cooling and while i say be able to 5 box wow, i dont plan on oding that yet so i can stick with 4gb OCZ Gold Low Voltage 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (OCZ3G1600lV4GK) [OCZ3G1600lV4GK] Memory DDR3 Dual-Channel - PC3-12800 |

| that memory looks good and everything else seems ok. I still recommend an aftermarket cpu cooler instead of the the one that comes with the processor. the one that comes with the processor is pretty lousy for cooling. I have the freezer 7 pro and it works ok, just a pain attaching it to the motherboard. also do you have a computer case already? might need to get one as well if you do not have one. you can run the parts with out a case, but that would be very risky. will you be buying another hard drive along with the SSD? if not 40GB will run out of space real fast if you are not careful. If you have a spare hard drive laying around, that will work for storing your files and what not. also do not forget to buy the dvd driver or a dvd-rw/cd-rw drive and said sata cables for the hard drives if you do not have some |

| If you are running at stock speeds, the default CPU coolers are more then enough. I always like to have more then adequate fans for a system, but really two -- say an intake and an exhaust fan is plenty. If you were planning on overclocking, I'd look at a better cooler then what comes with the chip; since you said you are not, then stock cooler will be fine. Then again, they're not that expensive, and if its hot where you are, they cannot hurt your system... and are there, if you ever decide to overclock down the road. |
