| Wanting to build a small i7 rig, so I have to choose between the shuttle sx58h7 or a mATX motherboard like this. Has anyone used any of these setups? Leaning more towards the mATX route, as the shuttle only has 4dimm slots so i'd be limited to 6gb ram |

| For five-boxing, you'd want 6GB as the lowest amount of ram. Sure, you can run with less, but 1GB for the OS and 1GB per client is the minimum for ram to not be your bottleneck. If you plan on running background applications, or memory intensive addons like auctioneer or questhelper, more ram is always good. I'd recommend 8GB for DDR2 boards (or any board with two channels) and 12GB for DDR3 boards (or three channel boards). That seems to be a common choice for boxers with Quad Core or i7 based systems. I went with an Asus P6T (x58) motherboard, i7 920, 12GB of 1600mhz DDR3. Same hard drive, video card, power supply, case etc as my old system. Have since downgraded the video card to an Nvidia based card (GTX 275) which has removed random slaves occasionally freezing (on my ATI card), and added an SSD I received for Christmas.

| I am very fond of the Shuttle systems, I have 4 of them right now ![]() A word of caution - They overheat, big time, as in, BIG TIME. I would not recommend getting one as a gaming system unless you have a precision drill and have no issues cutting into the case and applying some gigantic fans.

| Yea, the components are packed tightly in a shuttle pc. Airflow wasnt exactly a top priority.

| Been using a shuttle pc for the last 5 years and never had a heat problem with it, it's never overheated at all and been completely stable. The mATX route allows me to use this Lian-Li case and a corsair h50 plus 12gb of ram and a normal size power supply, plus it's not much bigger than a shuttle. I work away from home quite a lot and need the system to be portable for setting up in hotel rooms |

| Overheating isnt an issue for normal use. I probably wouldnt recommend a Shuttle for anyone who is going to be overclocking though. Unless they had a nice water cooler.
