If by hurts you mean gives me 400fps at max settings in big areas, then yea

Actually I have heard about the issues in 2009 about WoW and SLI, but many things have changed since then. I'm not sure what those things were, but I used SLI in WoW for about 6 months back when I had my GTX 295 without any issues, and I didn't have any issues last night, so I am guessing something was changed, either on Nvidia's end or WoW's end.

But if SLI and WoW end up hosing up, you can always disable SLI on a per-game basis.

By the way, the whole reason why I switched from ATI to Nvidia is this:

ATI - Cannot crossfire a game that is in windowed mode. ATI doesn't allow its customers to set crossfire settings on a per-game basis.

Nvidia - Can SLI a game that is in windowed mode. Nvidia allows customers to set SLI settings on a per-game basis.

The above reason of windowed mode is HUGE.

Nvidia invests a HUGE amount of time and resources into driver R&D so that nvidia cards will work not only in windows but also have current drivers available for unix, mac and linux. any 8800+ nvidia card in linux for example supports gpu decoding of mpeg and h264 video streams called vdpau with supported video player software such as mplayer and others. ati and intel sadly don't support hardware gpu deciding on any platforms but windows. big investments in multiplatform driver development and hardware design is the hallmark of a very well planned pc component that will more often than not work reliably and retain good value.

VDPAU - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Currently, the portions capable of being offloaded by VDPAU onto the GPU are motion compensation (mo comp), inverse discrete cosine transform (iDCT), VLD (Variable-Length Decoding) and Deblocking for MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP (MPEG-4 Part 2), MPEG-4 AVC (H.264 / DivX 6), VC-1, WMV3/WMV9, Xvid / OpenDivX (DivX 4), and DivX 5 encoded videos.[4] Which specific codecs of these that can be offloaded to the GPU depends on the generation version of the GPU hardware, specifically to also decode MPEG-4 ASP (MPEG-4 Part 2), Xvid / OpenDivX (DivX 4), and DivX 5 formats a GeForce 200M (2xxM) Series (the eleventh generation of NVIDIA's GeForce graphics processing units) or newer GPU hardware is required.
nvidia essentialy provided a fully funtctional equivalent to direct x for linux mac and unix. notably this also makes nvidia the only smart choice for a MythTV PVR setup

The problem I'm finding out is that my system is incredibly hot. I let it idle and went AFK for a bit, and with 4x WoW loading screens, for some reason my GPUs each hit over 100*C. No joke, one was at 101, the other was 103.

So yea, I'm buying an absolutely decked out case ($400 for this giant coolermaster) and will be putting in dual water cooling closed loop systems. I've never done this before so it'll be a very interesting project.

dont forget to upgrade that weak ups... wise man say 1.1 kilowatt power supply and 800watt ups make brown spots on your carpet

if your gonna run your water cooling pumps off the ups you might need that 3000va 2U apc smart ups rackmount unit. it would SUCK if your power went out and your gpu's heat spiked. there's plenty of them on ebay for half the retail price or less with new batteries if you search for SUA3000RM2U

That ups unit can make graphs to show your power usage... it's like epic lol

No 800D love? :P They're good for having a 3 rad watercooling setup.

Here is an example pic of an 800D, you have so much room to work with and you can hide all the cords in at the back.

(got this pic from another forum I go to)
980x, 12gb ram, 2x 480 on blocks, rampage 3 mobo

similar to your setup
