What you mentioned is actually having backgroundFPS set to something different than your normal FPS.

I'm not sure if you are using Pwnboxer, but if so, just go into the game settings of PB, and set the front/back FPS to be the same. Pwnboxer just provides an easy interface into this as one of a few methods to save CPU.

So myself, I do this:

Main game: Normal FPS 100, background FPS 60

Alt games: Normal FPS 60, background FPS 30

That right there causes WoW to use about half CPU, which is friggen awesome
