You might want to think about 6GB of RAM due to Cataclysm requiring more memory in a few spaces. The AMD 995 I'm not too familiar with, but I would say anything around the power of a Core i5 or more would definitely work.

i5 is the real deal nowadays. The AMD 6 cores also look promising for the price.

I have a roommate that boxed 20 instances of WoW no lag, with his 955, he has it OCd(GUI OC) to 3.8 and has 16GB of ram, so the Ram is what you'll really want for no lag. I would say go for 6GB - 8GB if you would like a no lag situation on Cata.

don't overlook SSDs as well. they provide an extreme performance boost.

1-60 you'll be fine, but once you start leveling in Outland and Northrend you will really notice a performance hit. The hardware requirements are probably going to go up with Cataclysm as well.

6 GB will get you by, but we are currently not sure how well/bad it's going to be when Cata comes out, 4GB can run 5 characters, pushing it hardcore, so 6GB will be fine, but I've been testing Cata lately and I noticed that the Ram has shot up, probably doubled, not sure about this atm. Need to run some more test on different machines, also I need beta keys for my other accounts... (Only running 1 account so far in Beta)

before I screwed up my gigabyte motherboard, I was boxing on this system

intel Q6600 - processor
gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R - motherboard
evga geforce gtx 260 core 216 - graphics card
G.Skill 2x2GB memory modules (forgot the part number) - memory
corsair HX620 - power supply
intel X25-V 40GB SSD - Solid State Disk Hard Drive
Hanns-G HG281D 28"(27.5" viewable) 1920,1200 resolution - monitor 1
HP w2207 22" 1680,1050 resolution - monitor 2
G11 keyboard, mx518 mouse, ideazon fang (do not buy :P)
I believe that is all.

My settings on main character was - medium/high 80FPS(world), 30FPS(dalaran)

settings on slaves - low/medium --- I limited the amount of FPS the slave windows got to around 30FPS. 30FPS(world), 15FPS(dalaran)

processor usage on all cores was around 75%, GPU usage was around 35% (not to sure about this number)

As you can see I somewhat struggled with the FPS in some areas. Like others have been saying, seems boxing in cata will require a beefier computer. Things got insanely better when I put WoW on a SSD hard drive. Loading the world, players, spells, instances, was crazy fast. SSD prices have gone down dramatically in the past year or so. you can get a great SSD for around $134 or less, depending on the brand, model of the SSD.

if you can gives us your budget and preference in computer hardware, we can help you build a system.
