Default My planned build

Tell me what you think. This setup is not necessarily for multiboxing, but more for gaming in general. My budget is around $1100, not counting OS.

Case: Newegg.com - Antec Nine Hundred Two Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Mobo: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard Note: apparently this has received some bad reviews recently. Would it still be a good choice?

GPU: Newegg.com - EVGA 768-P3-1360-TR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 768MB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

PSU: Newegg.com - KINGWIN Lazer LZ-850 850W Modular 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC W/ 3-Way LED Switch and Universal Modular Connector Power Supply

CPU: Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80601950

RAM: Newegg.com - G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ

HDD (Storage): Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

HDD (OS): Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST380815AS 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Optical Drive: Newegg.com - TEAC Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM Drive Model DV516E/B/S

Once I build this system, I plan on setting up my stream. I would like to start a Multiboxing Gaming Community of sorts, focusing on the community. Some examples would be game giveaways from Steam and a community Minecraft server.

But... I already have a 1TB data drive. No need for a 1TB OS drive

Any other comments/concerns/suggestions?

I would NOT get that motherboard. I bought the exact same for my system (see my post on this) and I suffered through endless boot loops with no POST, having to RMA the mobo and getting an ASUS one. I bought the rampage formula (70$ more expensive, but with TONS of additional features) and it went in without a hiccup.

Yeah, I was wondering about that mobo. Looked like a lot of people were sending it back. I'll take a look at the mobo you suggested and see if I can fit it in with my budget.

I really like the case, have had it for a while now.
My Q6600 was in it, and kept the same case when I upgraded to an i7 920.

My roommate liked it a lot too, and picked one up.

Lots of space, big fans so you can run them slower for less noise while still getting good airflow.

Depending on what you're doing, I'd be very tempted to jump to 12GB of ram, instead of 6GB.

1TB will be faster because data is on the inner platter. Plus if you get 2x 1TB you can RAID it for reliability + read performance.

the earlier gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R suffered reboot issues but I think the fix was using 1 stick of memory and updating the bios to a more recent version. Also the slot you put you're memory into (if you do not populate all slots) can cause a problem. I think it is in the motherboard manual stating you must insert the memory dimms in slots 2,4,6 or something like that.

I do have a gigabyte board ep45-ud3r (s775) that had a corrupt bios when I bought it and I shipped it to gigabyte, they sent it back and its working great. motherboard layout is great, runs cool, bios options are neatly arranged for readability.

check out the ASUS sabertooth x58 if you are not going to overclock too high (if at all), it seems to be a winner as well.

I have a ton of Gigabyte motherboards and they are pretty faultless, I really like them.
