| Decided that 5boxing at home isn't enough - I'm away from home A LOT - so I'm thinking about upgrading my laptop so I can 5-box while travelling. There are a bunch of threads here listing laptop system specs and asking if they're enough for 5boxing, but nothing listing models etc. As I am lazy & don't want to have to hunt through a bunch of comparison websites, I figured I'd just ask anyone who 5-boxes on a laptop to post the following: Manufacturer Model Primary account FPS in a major city Knowing more stuff like CPU/Graphics/RAM/Disk is cool but the models should provide that anyway. Primary account FPS is there as a substitute measure for the overall playability of the laptop. So, what do people have? |

| Senior Member | Hello, Some know me as CMS, others as just Weson....but what some may not know is that I box on a laptop. Amazon.com: HP Pavilion DV7-1020US 17" Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, Blu Ray Drive, Vista Premium) Black: Computer & Accessories to be exact. Now I play with every single "feature and detail" off. The only thing that I do keep on is my view distance is always maxed. that said 1-3 chars is no problem in BGs or any Old World or Burning Crusade area. Dalaran is lag hell. 4-5 is where I get pretty much lag all the time. I can deal, I dont mind. Others may not. But I figured to link something so you can see the stats... and if you find something with much better graphics/processor/ram etc you will pretty much be set. Final Note: Laptop is 5boxable, but its not pretty, don't even try to go to Dalaran with all 5 or you will cry. |

| This: Computers: Laptops: HP Pavilion 17.3" Laptop featuring Intel Core Processor i7-720QM (DV7-3098CA) - Black | Best Buy Canada Web Store 30-40 FPS in Dal on main acccount (5 accounts) Fantastic if you need to box on a laptop. A little pricey, for the same price you could build a much beefier Desktop PC, but I work on the road most of the time so I use the laptop the majority of the time as opposed to my gaming rig at home. I had previously boxed on a dual core laptop, 64bit Vista and 4 gig ram, was not bad at all actually, but Dalaran was a bit of a pain and I didn't even try any Wintergrasp on it. 5 man heroics were no problem though. | Well, I've shrunk my list of possible laptops down to two: the Dell Studio XPS 16 and the Alienware M15x. My choices are driven mostly by the ease of customisation - extra memory & and faster CPUs - and by my desire not to go above 15" in screen size so I can actually survive carrying the thing while I travel. I can't really decide between these two though. The major difference between them (other than price, which isn't really an issue) is that the alienware system has a 1GB NVIDIAŽ GeForceŽ GTX 260M, while the XPS has a 1GB ATI Mobility RADEONŽ HD 4670. Any opinions about either of these video cards? |
