Default kvm switches

Howdy everyone, I am curious about the difference between a kvm switch and a multicaster. In an article from wowiki.com on multiboxing hardware it talked about them like they were both need to hardware multibox.

Vetra Keyboard Multicaster In my experience there are a few hardware choices you need to make to actually control your characters. You will need two Vetra keyboard broadcasters. These will allow you to take the output of a single machine and send it to multiple computers. Make sure you match this with a PS/2 keyboard. USB is too difficult to multicast and is not a good option here. This rules out the use of the Nostromo N52, Ergodex DX1, the Logitech G15 and other USB only keyboards. Each Vetra Keyboard Broadcaster (VIP-844-BC) costs $200. To control four total boxes, you need one. To control five, you will need two. They will make you a custom model if you ask and delivery is usually within two weeks but I do not have a quote. They are usually pretty reasonable though. You will also need the PS/2 cables. I highly suggest HDMI Cable, Home Theater Accessories, HDMI Products, Cables, Adapters, Video/Audio Switch, Networking, USB, Firewire, Printer Toner, and more!. Their cables are solid, CHEAP and just work. Make sure you pick up a single short male to male PS/2 cable to link the two Vetras together as well as the five male to male PS/2 cables to connect from the Vetra's outputs to the computers.

See discussion on this topic. [Picture]

Total Cost - $400 Running Total - $3250

Keyboard/Mouse KVM I highly suggest SOME form of a KVM, if only to switch from sending keystrokes to every machine to your main computer. Vetras are top notch, enterprise level units. The VIP-802-KM is what you need to send input to all or one machine. If you want to go further, and be able to send keystrokes to any single machine, you will need Y-Mice for each machine. You only need the KM option, saving some money over a full KVM - which also sends video. You just need to send the keyboard data (and perhaps mouse). KVMs switch far too slow. You need a dedicated monitor for EACH box you wish to play.

[2 Port Vetra KM (KVM without Video)]

Total Cost - $120 (2 port version) Running Total - $3370

I am curious because i think with my current setup and unless i buy a hulking machine this will be the best way to multibox warhammer or future games.

i 5 box over 2 pc's atm i use a KC to bordcast over the 2 pc's a few resons is pwnboxer does not support network and who knows if it will as the kvm i use for the 2 pc's i use a software one called Input Director i have 1 keybord and mouse and a backup wireless mouse incase somethink goes wrong

Input Director is very good av not have any probs with it and love it to bits and the price is free so its even better it can clone the keybord and mouse to over pc's as well just like any over KVM can do.

A big thing is that these days, an average machine can run multiple MMO games at a single time. My older office PC can run 10 WoWs and my new gaming PC can run 30+ WoWs. So the need to use a hardware multiplexor isn't needed so much anymore.

That may change if a new MMO comes out with super artificial intelligence or jaw-dropping graphics, but even so, I don't think it would be a problem for an average PC to run multiple copies of those.

Bottom line - PCs right now are FAR, FAR ahead in processing power then MMO games require. This makes software broadcasting (like pwnboxer.com) the way to go.

Plus, and this might not matter for you guys, but I'm a freak when it comes to conservation and helping the environment out. I frankly rather use 1 faster system than multiple slower ones if just for the fact that it is less wasteful to the environment.

i wish my system could run 5 wow but its fails
1st, i can not use fraps/steam,

2nd, i can not enter any big city or the new dungons as my cpu bottle necks out and follow stops and have to keep running back i look like a fool!

3rd, the prob where the char goes off and runs i worked out is to do with lag/cpu overworking when i pull a boss/trash thats when the sh*t hits the fan ok i love to place them friest some fight like the new ones this is not a opt! anymore

4th, when next exp comes out there is not going to be any safe zones with the settings are lower! there updateing the looks off all races so to make them look better like bifs/space goats

so really that why i had to stop 5 boxing on one pc all my settings was low i had a dualcore 3.5 and 8gb off ram.

i meen tim u keep going on about how good system can run wow and mutitask but when u wonted us to make a viedo for a pc that could do it noone could i feel this is more of a prob then sometimes u think it is.

its ok if u do not wont to add network support to pwnboxer thats fine just meens that some off us will have to make the move to overs that do

av got no money to update but i got my old system that i can easy 2/3 box on so i use that and then olny 2/3 on my main system since then i had one char run off in 3 days before i was at all 5 running off and happon a good 6 to 8 times a dungon!
