Hey there, Anybody know of a single CPU i7 motherboard that has 12 DDR3 memory slots (instead of 6) by chance? I'm not talking about 12G of ram, I mean 12 physical DDR3 ram slots. I'm looking to get this to set up a new server eventually but can't seem to find one.

True but I don't really need processing power, I just need RAM, and lots of it

Im not sure but you might have to goto a true server situation with multiple MB and or a single MB equipped with multiple processors. Whats memory tech up to now, 8 GB per stick? You could always develop one Tim.

| Senior Member | How about one of these? Super Micro Computer, Inc. - Products | Motherboards | Core 2 Edit: Not 12 slots, but does support up to 24GB of RAM (6x4GB). |

You'd need to go dual processor xeon 55xx series to get 12 slots. The core i9 is the next gen nahalem class processor but still just for desktop (but it will have 6 cores).

Well, the 12x slots will give me more than 24GB. The thing is, a 4GB ram CHIP is vastly more spendy than a 2GB, and I'm trying to be economical in building 24GB servers

For what it's worth.. The desktop processors (core iX) don't support ECC memory. Depending on your application that could be a fairly big problem or none at all.

Tim you could go with an Ophio *think the spelling is correct* They are a dedicated MOBO meant to run a commercial newspaper press. They have sockets for 8 processors Each socket has 9 ram slots capable of 36Gb per set. Unfortunatly 100k plus for a MOBO sucks ![]() Ps just built a Skulltrail for a client even though they are sweet not worth the expence per performance
