Default How many instances? UK potential boxer

Not a bad budget purchase, ideally to run 3-4 instances:

Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-21D Laptop - Laptops | Ebuyer.com

Open to advice and alternatives I've read on the forums that ram is more of a kicker for the game and what cpu's are best but i'm not overly tech savvy.

Tim, watch the stream a lot on JTV - are you not able to write /assist toona /cast main spell to start the ball rolling rather than having a single assist macro - saves 1 space at least!

Also a multiboxing healer team is really, really fun to watch.

Hey hey!

My first question: Why a laptop? You can get a desktop that is vastly more powerful for the same and less price.

Well i've been aiming for a laptop for a while for other 'on the go things' never had a laptop and i'm 27!! not good...

but - i'll certainly look into newer rigs, too expensive to upgrade current one which is 3gigs ddr2, AMD 8450 triple core @ 2.1 ghz, win 32 and a single radeon hd 5700 series.

A long time ago i was looking at your shuttle beast, you still rolling with that?

What would you pick for a desktop for around the same price range? + / - £100?

Thanks for responding too, nice to have such an active site owner

for 600 pounds, you can get an new i7 (2nd generation), 8gb ram, a GOOD videocard, 2TB harddisk.

The biggest differences here are:
i3 first gen vs i7 2nd gen, means that instead a processor thats not meant for gaming, you get one thats super powerful.
Intel GMA vs Good videocard, same as processors.

Basicly, its just the difference between being able to play anything that comes out next 3 years, and not being able to properly run anything :P

I'm multi-boxing on a laptop these days (picked up one of these a month ago). I still love big cases stuffed with way too much hardware, but am finding myself enjoying the mobility and convenience of a laptop. I have plans to move to Florida in a year or two, and I like the ability to have a small yet powerful computer on hand until things get set up and settled in. And the way it's going with this unit, I may not get another tower system after I move.

There was a time when a laptop would cost 2x as much as a desktop and not be nearly as powerful, but now the cost premium is not so big (around $400-500 I would guess) and I'm not lacking in power (this unit has an i7 quad core, 16GB memory, a 1.5TB RAID 0 setup and GTX 570m video). This system doesn't blink when I five box.

For multiboxing on a budget I would still advise a standard desktop system, but I am impressed by what we can do now with a laptop for a few hundred dollars more.

Thanks to all for the useful info,

I think that i'm definitley going to have to settle for another desktop for boxing. Chamassa, I thank you whole heartedly for the reccomendation and guess that you're in the UK yourself.

I've began to alter the search towards another tower, starting with the basic sites (Curries, Ebuyer, Play/Amazon and Eclipse Computers as a start - dammit I wish we had newegg!!)

Where would you suggest to find such a rig?

To give something back to the community, behold! a macro to delete Grey items from bags:
/run for bag = 0, 4 do for slot = 1, GetContainerNumSlots(bag) do local name = GetContainerItemLink(bag,slot) if name and string.find(name,"ff9d9d9d") then PickupContainerItem(bag,slot) DeleteCursorItem() end end end

Tim: PBJT_84 will sub to your stream today, /wave

Edit: Found a Starting point: http://www.amazon.co.uk/GAMING-Pheno...974270&sr=1-59

Has the 8 gb ram, a 1gig graphics card and 1tb hdd which isn't bad at all and i've phoned a local computer provider who say that Intel now draw memory from the RAM to pump the Graphics card if needed - 1) is this true and 2) how do you turn it off, I'll be needing the ram!

Charmass - ty and Nice footy team, always loved the Dutch squad.

I think i've found a viable (yet cheap) desktop then:

Zoostorm Core i7-2600 Pro Tower PC - www.misco.co.uk

Integrated Graphics a problem?

how about: Zoostorm Premium PC (Core i7-2600, RAM 8GB DDR3, HDD 2TB, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

either of those any good for 5 boxing or back to the proverbial drawing board?

EDIT: found another option: http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default...UCT&KEY=988733

hex cores

While integrated graphics do not necessarily mean awful performance these days, I would not trust them for something as demanding as running multiple game clients. The system you spec'ed from Mesh computers looks good, especially since you can upgrade the memory without removing the existing modules, and since you can upgrade the video if you find that the 6450 doesn't provide sufficient performance.

The Phenom X6 will be a good CPU for multiboxing, it's what I had been using prior to getting my laptop and it worked just fine. I don't consider it to be in the class of Intel's i7 processors, but for running five copies of WOW I don't think you'd notice a difference.

I will leave others to rate how well the Radeon 6450 will work, though I will note that I have successfully five-boxed with Radeon 4870s* and 5850s in the past. AMD's numbering scheme makes my head spin.

*These were dual 4870s, but it was also with a slower CPU (a core-2 quad at 2.4GHz).
