Seing as you've been kind enough to help i'd like to share something back which might not benefit everyone but could be useful for some. Not everyone finds it easy to make gold on new servers but there's a really easy way to get tonnes.. Tailoring and Enchanting, with particular reference to BOA enchants.

I might be naive in assuming that boxers always run in groups of 5 but even if you only have access to 2 toons you can make quite a lot of bank for not much work...

That second link could definitely do it, but you'd want to make sure to get a graphics card. An Nvidia 260 could definitely do 5+ (even close to 10) on any other those PCs.

If the price is near the same, get the i7 2600 over the Phenom X6, the performance is nearly twice as much. AMD is sooooooooo far behind.

Just wanted to say thanks to all for all the help.

I've not committed to purchase but have a much clearer idea about what my requirements should be, so for that I offer my eternal gratitude and hope to join the pwnboxing ranks in the next couple of weeks / a month tops, all going to plan.

It's been great for everyone to help the noob, no hostility or even a hint of it. Only polite, friendly advice (*Pats community on back).
