Default The 800th "rate my system" thread

Hi all!

I'm currently running 5 characters on my system, and although it's basically running OK, I'm guessing one or more of my hardware components is being tasked to its limits. I hope you can help me determine which one(s)!

Intel Core 2 CPU, 6700 @2.66GHz/2.67GHz
4 GB RAM
32-bit Win 7
Nvidia 8800GTS:
SyncMaster 245BW (1920x1200)
SyncMaster PX2370 (1920 x 1080)

I have my main on the larger monitor, running at fairly normal quality and frame-rate, set to have affinity for CPU 1
My other four toons are on the smaller monitor, limited in Pwnboxer to 5 FPS, and they are all set to have affinity for CPU 2

Even when not playing WoW, I sometimes have strange video artifacts on the 245BW monitor (twinkling pixels, strange bands of light yellow bars across the screen), but these often go away after either rebooting or the monitor blacks out for a few seconds. Once this happens, the video card/computer seems to get things "figured out", and image quality is great.

While playing WoW, even in single player, the monitor sometimes blacks out at first, but then calms down and everything is fine. (Red flags, though, eh!)

When multiboxing, sometimes the FPS on my main screen is very slow, and the whole experience is awful. I will give it a while to calm down, but sometimes it just won't. After a reboot, it works fine.

Usually, though, the setup is quite playable, and I've been having a blast with my little team.

So! I'm hoping someone will be able to say, "Dude, there is no way [component X] can handle all that, you should get an upgrade!", or tell me if I'm basically on the right track. I'd really appreciate it.

I'm really enjoying Pwnboxer and the forums, it's a fun community.

Cheers,
UncleVinny

ya your system is finding it hard my system is the same as yours but i overclocked the system to 3.1gz installed windows 7 from vista (vista uses to much ram) closed all apps i have running and its not bad now but it be your cpu that letting you down the more u get on in game the more probs you find just try keep system make sure its got loads off air

Edit you olny use 3.1gb off ram as u got windows 32bit see if u can change to 64bit put all wows on low setting and see if u can get FPS to 10 5 is far to low

Ill give my 2 cents on your hardware.

I suggest at least a Core 2 Quad for 5 boxing. A dual core will run vanilla WoW fine, but once you hit Outlands you'll notice the lag, and It only gets worse in Northrend.

4g of RAM is ok, but 8 would be great

32-bit OS makes me cry T-T. 64-bit is far superior.

Have you checked the temperatures on your Video Card?

Uncle Vinny,

Here are my recommendations:

1. go Core 2 Quad! i7 is overkill

2. 6GB is plenty with room to spare. 8GB is overkill.

4. at least 40GB SSD portable. Kingston's will serve you well.

3. 64-bit OS

4. Limit your MaxFPS: 20, limit your MaxFPSBk: 16

I'd stick with the i7 myself, and go for the i7 930 ($300). 6GB is great, and its DDR3 so 2x2GB is what you would get.

I use max FPS on my main to 60 and alts to 20/16 just like qwerty said.
