| I have a real simple post here, and I think it will be hella fun to read. What is your favorite RPG (pc or console) of all time and why? For me, it is the Ultima series of games. Specifically, Ultima 4 Quest of the Avatar (NES), Ultima 7 Serpent Isle (PC), and Ultima 7 part 2 Black Gate (PC). Those games instilled within me a sense of morality, if not different than most people's, and opened up my mind and helped establish the imagination I cherish still to this day. ![]() ![]() ![]() What about you, what is your favorite RPG and why? |

| Senior Member | Mine has to be Final Fantasy 1 for the NES. A long long time ago... I was in WalMart with my Dad. There was a huge bargain bin of NES games for 10$. My family wasn't very well off back then (my Dad saved for 6 months just to get me a NES) so I only had a handful of games. I was looking through the bin and came across Final Fantasy. Up until this point I was interested in SciFi but I had never EVER been interested in anything "fantasy" type stuff. I read the back of the box and it talked about adventure and monsters and magic and it sounded AWESOME. I begged my Dad to get it for me and after much whining he relented. This is the game ABOVE ALL that set me on my "gaming path" to this day, and is the original source of my love of RPGs.

| Super Moderator | FFI. However, I didn't really grow up in the NES/SNES era. My first FF game was FFX, but I didn't like the linearity of it (you were forced to go on their path to get from place to place). When FFI and FFII came out on the GBA, I thought it looked interesting and bought them. I'm more a fan of "open worlds" i.e Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3. ...still debating whether or not to buy FFI on the iPhone though.....

| Super Moderator | and to add a bit to my post... My first ever RPG was Pokemon Blue. I was 5 or 6 at the time, and played it on the massive paperweight gameboy. Shortly afterwards I moved to the gameboy pocket, and then to the gameboy color (zomgs color!). I was really into Pokemon when I was a kid (who wasn't?). My collection included Blue, Red, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby and Sapphire. I recently ordered the Gold/Silver remakes for nostalgia. Gold/silver was my favorite era of games when I was kid. Look forward to playing it and remembering what it was like 10 years ago

| The Bards's Tale for the Commodore 64 (replayed on the Amiga). I remember missing lots of school until I finally beat Mangar. Classic. Exodus: Ultima III runs a close second......

| Oh man Final Fantasy 1 was an absolutely amazing game. I'm playing it now on my iPhone, and I also have it for the DS, as well as the PSP. FFI is definitely an amazing game. So is Bards Tale, I had the original as well, that game was awesome. I loved the way you moved around town, and especially loved the way you got really attached to your characters and their development. I played that game maybe 20 years ago but I still remember it. I never did beat Bards Tale. I remember getting super powerful then going to this dragon, which I think was the end guy. I would fight him forever, literally for almost 1 hour, but could never beat him... Ultima 3: Exodus is also an amazing game. That was the first game that got me into the Ultima series. I loved Exodus, and my favorite thing about that game was Ambrosia. The immersive qualities of that game... oh my. I would absolutely LOVE to play all the Ultimas, 1 to 9, including Underworlds and such, all the way through, live. |

| I came in very late on the whole RPG scene. It was all about fast paced FPS games before I tried out The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind. I still get goosebumps when I think about the musical theme, that always seemed to play at those ambient moments when I found an especially beatiful scenery between battles. |
