I hope Rift does well, and that it lasts longer than other not-warcraft games.
It would be very nice for Blizzard to have a real competition, as that will result in the best possible product for us to enjoy and play.

Rift did have just over a million pre-orders.
Which says it has the chance to last a while.

I'm totally with Ualaa there.

I actually believe that Blizzard could ship-up as a company and stop making so many bad choices if there was true competition. I know it is staggering for a company to compete with such a giant MMO like WoW, but if a single company can successfully compete, they are going to make BILLIONS.

Also, I believe that if RIFT can compete with WoW on a large scale then that is going to spur motivations for more companies to try and compete, which ultimately will lead to a much larger MMO playing field.

So for RIFTers now, how are you liking the game? Thoughts?

This is going to be a first-hand response.

Since beta 5, i've been playing rift whenever I can. I now have a level 40 cleric, 30 warrior and 20 rogue (roughly). After all that though, I still feel WoW is a better game to be playing. It's really hard to describe, and RIFT just has a VERY different feel to it. A lot of the game mechanics are the same, and a few things are really cool, but the feel of the game is just 'eh..', I'm not quite sure how to put it. I think the best way to describe it (for me) is that RIFT looks too real and feels a bit clunky (again, this is my opinion), and I really enjoy the 'game-style' look to WoW.

With WoW you can really tell you're in a game and I think that's what drew me back. WoW is great, and every time I think i've found something new, I'm ALWAYS drawn back to WoW.

So there's my 2 cents. Don't get me wrong, RIFT is a great game! But I'd still prefer WoW, cos that right there is a PERFECT game.

(remember this is JUST MY OPINION)

Completely agree here, I hope it does very well.

Blizzard could definitely use some real competition - I think they have gone from a very agile, quality-driven company to a clunky, built-by-committee operation that's lost some focus on their original vision. Hopefully more viable competitors will get them back to their old level of creativity and execution.

I didn't mean to be bashing Rift earlier - I bought the collectors edition pre-release and subbed. It just lost its luster for me soon after release. I was actually much more captivated by WAR. Hopefully Rift won't see the same decline as WAR though.
