Default Twitch TV Chat??

I'm having problems with the twitch TV chat. It seems that it doesn't refresh all the time and then ends up not refreshing at all after maybe 10-15 mins of inactivity.

Just starting with a new stream I want to be able to reply to everyone that comes on and talks, but that's hard when the chat doesn't update. Is there some sort of chat client or anything thats more reliable? What about the chat in the dashboard page? I haven't tried that yet so I don't know how well it works.

Any Ideas?

using any irc client, you can connect to twitch chat that way. I use emacs "irc" command to connect to channels and use it to log chat as well

Ok, I'd love to use IRC, and connect to my channel, but honestly, I've never used IRC before, so how do I connect to my channel with it? And which client should I use (just for chatting, that's all I need)

Awesome, and so this should allow me to chat with people actively who are watching the stream?

I'm at work and network restrictions here don't allow me to try it out... :S

erm... maybe not quite chat with others, but you can read it. Did you try popping out chat at all?

When you are streaming, I can hop on in and see if there is any delay.

Yeah, when I pop out the chat window, it does what I said in the original post, basically it stops reading any of the chats.

I might be able to make another JTV account, just for reading the chat with IRC, then see if I can just type chat in the popout window on my main JTV account when I see someone say something in IRC.

very long way to get around a buggy system, but it should do. I'll test it out tonight.

on that subject there's a really good free windows gui irc client version of xchat from silverx who was building windows versions from the xchat gnu source for a few years and it includes native ssl connections, python, perl, ruby and tcl script interpreter support that mirc does not.

The 4 script language interpreters add some serious extendability for an irc client that can be a lot of fun if your a coder or like tinkering with unique script plugins for irc like announce bots... you could even extend xchat to utilize a database server

Silverex X-Chat 2 for Windows

It's perhaps a few minor versions out of date but there's really not many other alternatives that don't force you to buy a license.

Both mirc and official windows build of xchat are only trialware unless you fork over some dollars, chatzilla is just terrible and anything else is pretty much going to confuse anyone that isn't very comfortable with a linux shell irc client.

I also highly recommend the black theme from the faq page so the default white background doesn't burn the corneas out of your eye sockets
