Tri-Box Mages?

Tri-Boxing three Mages seems like an awesome idea. Probably more manageable than my past MB experiments. Besides, I hear Mages can output more ranged DPS than Elemental Shamans...or so I heard.

Not sure on the race, but the talent-spec is of somewhat more concern. Frost is out - its nice, but major DPS is what I want. So that leaves Arcane or Fire. Any suggestions?

Erm you got 2 options
Either u sacrifice some dps as fire, working around the proc for pyro using a
/cast pyroblast
/stopcasting
/cast fireball

Or arcane, u work around the proc for missles using a 3AB-AM/barrage rotation

mages rock dps! One of my favorite classes to have in any team is a mage due to the fact that they completely PWN!

What I do is

/stopmacro [channeling]
/assist focus
/castsequence reset=8/combat arcane blast, arcane blast, arcane blast, arcane blast
/cast arcane missiles
/cast Presence of Mind
/cast Mage Ward

Its quite common, and you can add in the procs when they become available later on in your leveling experience, and use frostbolt till you get arcane blast at level 20

Go with a two step macro, and it will improve the DPS on Arcane Mages.
Arcane being the worst spec for mana efficiency, but the best spec for DPS with a bonus of less things to click or procs to need to hit.

If your software does not support two step macros, where you mash a single key but it outputs keybind A on the first press, keybind B on the second press, and then goes back to the start of the sequence, there is a work around.
You can use /changeactionbar 1 and /changeactionbar 2, in conjunction with these macros.
You would attach the change to bar #2, to the first macro which is on bar #1, and attach the command to change to bar #1 to the macro on bar #2; make sure they're both on the same number on their respective bars.

The /click can use any bar/button combination or even Bartender/Dominos buttons; for the default Action Bars, these are the commands:
Default Bar....... /Click ActionButton#
Bottom Left......./Click MultiBarBottomLeftButton#
Bottom Right...../Click MultiBarBottomRightButton#
Left Bar............./Click MultiBarLeftButton#
Right Bar.........../Click MultiBarRightButton#

Anytime you don't want to use Pets, drag this MultiBarBottomLeftButton off of the bottom left action bar, to anywhere else.
Now when that blank button is hit, nothing happens.

Thanks for the help. I know Arcane outdoes Elemental in DPS, but is less efficient then the latter at mana conservation (Arcane has no counterpart to Mana Tide Totem, sadly ).

I've also become aware that toon-transfers between accounts is possible as long as the account-holder names match, so this is also a potential plus to my future MB experiments.

If I could absolutely afford it, then 10-box Mages would be a very-good idea IMO. All that mega-power could one-shot even some Cata content!!

If you use bartender or dominos they have different names for the buttons, I don't have bartender anymore but its something like

/click BartenderActionBar#(1-100) they don't do bottom, left, right if I recall correctly.

The reason I have arcane missiles setup like that is cause arcane missiles no longer needs 4 arcane blasts to build up power. Instead now it procs so you can't put it in a cast sequence. I hit high dps on my mages with my macros on my low level toons, and my level 85's. I have my cooldown buttons, my dps cast sequence setup to spam arcane blast, and arcane missiles will proc sometimes after the first arcane blast, which will then cast next time the macro calls.

This totally reminds me of the days of doing 4x Mages 1x Priest. Sooo much fun running around spamming AOE

The potential DPS of 5 Arcane Mages would be incredible, even at low levels! I'm looking forward to testing this out, in time!

Tim, I'm Australian, so if I was to get this MB experiment running, our timezones would conflict, wouldn't they? I mean, one of us may be asleep when the other wants to raid!?

Well firstly you have to join Blackrock-US as Horde, then join the guild.

I would probably recommend you do 4x Mages 1x Healer, one who can AOE, so probably a priest. You'll need it esp. if you start owning up battlegrounds
