RIFT guide site I made with my brother - Thoughts?

Hey all!

So I've been trying to help a brother of mine get into the online website world, something business and community related for him. He is addicted to gaming and is trying to turn that hobby of his into a business that helps the community.

He loves RIFT, so together we made this: Defiant Guides.com

It basically is a pay-for guide site membership with steps/videos/gold making/etc.

The fun part is I lent my crazy skynet computer setups that I multibox with to him for video encoding. The end result is 50-some HD videos, ranging from 30minutes - 5hours each, one per level, pretty badass quality.

Anyway, the website just went live. Check out the design, let me know what you think. Does it look nice, flow nice, have good graphics, no broken links/images, etc?

The goal was to make a nice gamer-feel type of website, so even if you aren't a RIFT gamer, from a gamer perspective, what do you think of the look `n feel?

To be honest, it feels a tad bit generic.

I've seen plenty of "guide" websites and what not and they somehow all end up looking the same. But maybe that's just me.

I'm always skeptical of seeing one page products, where all the info and some pictures are plastered on to a long page and the only next thing to do is buy.

that's just my 2 cents, however.

too plain... white bg? looks like you read "how to sell stuff online, and make-a-big-monies, big boi! " guide..

needs more colour imo

should look like a game site - in terms of info it appears to be there and I'd just buy it because you did it Tim, if i was into that game, not because your page sells me on what I'm going to get.

Oddly enough, those crappy single page sites really do ginormously well in sales. I don't really like them myself, but they do really well. So what I tried to do is take the successes behind why those sites do well, and add a bit of gamer flare to it.

I am going to be adding a video to the top of the site, which explains why there is a little whitespace room left open. Should be done in a couple days!

yeah I know that the generic pages generate cash so i had another look at the site and what really stands out is the blending of the images white bg into the page white bg. i reckon if the bg of the page was not white or the images had definitive outlines maybe that would make it not seem so bland...

and maybe put up a montage of videos - oh you said you were going to put up a video.

also don't these single page deals have another number like $99 crossed out and "you get all this for $47!!"

Hey Tim,

I know I may not be the biggest contributer to the site but I felt like i could give some feedback when i got the email about this site.

My first impression, Was one those "Get Rich Quick" theme sites or MLM sites if you know the ones im speaking of. Although Yes I agree that this format of site usually does well in sales, I just think that the site could use a bit more of your personality in it.

I know youll make adjustments and make it a great site, but as for now my vote has to be i really dont like it... I know im only the minority but just figured i'd give my honest feedback.
