Default New to multiboxing

Hello everyone. Ill get str8 to the point.
i want to start multiboxing and have already downloaded and purchased Pwnboxer. but i am unsure of how many and what toons i want to do.
Originally i was going to do the standard 5 shamans and do 5s arena and some heroics then raid with you guys but i think cataclysm is going to get rid of 5s arena as BG's wil become rated. so should i still just box 5 guys or would 3 be ok? is it worth the $30 more a month for 5 chars? i need some opinions on whats best. should i do 10 mages and AOE spam BG's? lol

But yeah, that would be COOOOL, 10 mages in flag room... although, that's the whole BG, you couldn't score a point! But you wouldn't lose any either

I'm sure quite a few people 2 and 3 box.

But the most popular, or at least visible composition is 5 boxing.
And 4 boxing is very similar to 5, with both advantages and disadvantages.
With four, you can run with someone else playing heals in Arena.
Or in BG's, you still have the firepower to burn someone down, but especially in the low number of player BG's, you occupy fewer slots.

4 boxing can do most heroics, by covering either heals + dps or tanking + dps, and recruiting a fifth for the final role.

If you have aspirations to PvE heroics, I'd go with five myself. That way you can box when you want to, leave halfway through anything, and in short have ultimate flexibility.

Some very popular compositions include:

1x DK, 4x Ret... PvP powerhouse, with all 5-man PvE content doable.
1x DK, 1x Enh, 2x Ret, 1x Arms... PvP focus, Purge + Shatter.

1x Pal, 4x Shm.. PvE powerhouse, can PvP okay.
1x Pal, 3x Shm, 1x Warlock... Gains +13% spell power buff.

1x Feral/Balance (dual-spec), 4x Shaman... All-round team.

5x Warlock or 1x Priest/Druid, 4x Warlock.
5x Feral.
5x Death Knight.
1x DK, 4x Priest

SO basically i have to decide if i want to PVP or PVE...
Please explain how 1dk-4 pally works.
Wouldnt 1 pally 4 shamans powerhouse anything? in pvp u could just use the shammies to chain lightning and chain heal wile pallie survivablity rapes

If you want, you could check out some of Tim's recordings on justin.tv, He's running 4 pallies at the moment, leveling them to catch up to his level 60 DK.

Justin.tv - Multiboxing in World of Warcraft - Videos

Most of his recent ones are leveling his DK, but a little before that is him multiboxing his 4 pallies. You should check it out.

This can work well, just not as well as some of the other PVP groups that Ualaa mentioned.

If you want a team for both PvE and PvP, you can use a tank type who has dual spec to a caster/healer type. The druid being the most obvious example.

If you want some heroics, but a PvP focus, the DK/4x Ret is probably the top pick. It is certainly not the only option, but has a lot going for it.

The DK has quite a few melee buffs, Icy Talons, Horn of Winter etc. Also has Death Grip, which overcomes closing the distance (pallies big weakness). Path of Frost, can be huge in Arathi Basin etc.

Ret Pallies have an enormous amount of burst. Divine Storm is passive healing, like Chain Heal hops - it doesn't have to be aimed. Judging a target with Light (x2) Wisdom and Justice is lots more passive healing. Exorcism (sometimes) or Flash of Light (most often) as instant casts from Art of War procs, is a lot of healing power. Not to mention the DK can Rune Tap, which glyphed heals the party too.

Then there is DS/DS (Divine Sacrifice & Divine Shield) chains, where half of the party damage is redirected to a toon who is immune to all damage for a time. Stick that on round-robin, and AoE crap is largely negated. Seal of Vengeance is the default Seal to use, but Seal of Command (hitting two targets per hit) with Consecrate x4 and Death & Decay, is decent AoE punch.

Lots of stuff going for this comp.
