Hi, I currently have 3 accounts and am finding it difficult to keep up with addons etc. I tried to point PwnBoxer at the same install directory but Addons like Altoholic don't seem to stay in sync. At one time I thought I had seen a good guide on how to properly do this, but I can't seem to find it now. Altoholic is one of the main reasons for this. I use it all the time to find what toon has the mats I need. I was thinking that I would just need to somehow have each account point to the same saved variables directory, but then I was not sure if this would work since all 3 would be trying to save data to the same file. Anybody have any input? Is this possible to do or is it asking for disaster. I'm hooked on this multi-boxing. I suck at WoW but did take 2 RAF Pallys from 0-60 in 2 weeks. (lots of hours a day) Thanks.

| Senior Member | I could be wrong but Altholoic only functions for multiple toons/alts on the same account and thus would not work for Multiboxing as toons are all on their own accounts. Just checked the addon site and it does say "Account wide", which I think confirms my above statement.

There is a sync function for altaholic, so you can use it with multiple accounts. The default, addon without the use of the sync feature is for a single account. As far as managing addons... A single install, allows you to check (on a per toon basis) which addons are used by which toons. Multiple installs will take up additional disk resources, and you'll still be choosing which toons get which addons, on the per toon basis. If it will be easier for you, go for it, but you're not really gaining anything from this approach. Five instances of warcraft run just as smoothly from a single install of the game, as they would from five installs on the same computer. Different video/sound options is basically the only thing gained. But if your software multiplexer has virtualized Config.WTF files, which many do, you already have this benefit with a single install. That said... If you want to go with multiple installs, take a look at Symbolic Links. Search this forum, or the other site, for SymLink or Symbolic Link.

Altaholic hah that is an awesome name. IMO I like to just keep it simple. Download Notepad+ and make a copy of your WoW WTF folder and paste everything into your alt character's info. Then do a mass search/replace in Notepad+ for your character's name/server,and BAM, everything should work. I do that myself and it works at least.

In addition to more stuff... I know it allows you to view (on your main) the banks/bags/gear (i think)/known trade skill recipes/ etc... on all of your slave toons. It isn't something that is concerned with copying an interface from one toon to another.

Hello All, Thanks for the great input. I am on my second set of toons now. 2 priests. Anyway, Altoholic, I have not found any way to synch across servers. The original info on Curse said it could do this. It doesn't say that anymore so I am wondering if that was removed from the app or something. The only thing I have found is to "Share" between accounts. This sort of works but is really hard to keep up with. It seems to just copy the database over and does not keep it up to date. The end result is I have to delete the old data and refresh it with new data. I really like this app but if there is one out there better, I am open to suggestions. I need this because I have 3 accts and all professions covered but when I need mats, I need to see all accts to know if I have them already. Thanks for the help. I am really loving Multi-Boxing.

I don't use the addon, but will do a search on the other boxing forum, and then post back here if I find anything for ya. Altoholic is very nice. It allows you to share everything in your bank, guild bank and inventory across accounts. It also allows you to search. For example, I can enter "Runecloth" in the search and see I have 7 in my Main's bags, 3 in the bags of an alt on my main account, 5 in the bags of a toon on another of my accounts and it also lists the recipes that my tailor {also another account} has with "runecloth" in the name. You can also look at any tradeskill on any toon in your guild, money, talents, guild banks, regular banks, gear, specs, glyphs...pretty much anything. Oh, it'll also tell you when cooldowns are about to expire for things like transmutes and instance locks. It's not exactly lightweight, and updating can take a while if you're sharing a lot of information {you must share manually, it won't auto-update}. and I don't think there's anything you can do to customize it, but it's a very easy interface to use and has so much information it's kinda daunting. Across accounts. I believe it auto updates information on the same account. So Acct 1 will always have all the valid information for all alts {that have been logged in} on that account. Same with the main on Acct2 and so on. To get the information from Acct 2 on to Acct 1, you have to share it over. I do it once every few days when I'm taking a flight or waiting on daily resets. Unless you have huge and constant turnovers of items, there's not really much need to do it all the time. Altaholic is a bloated pig. I like what it does and how it does it. It syncs via a private channel with allow/deny lists etc. But it is huge. With as many toons as most of us have it gets really really big very fast. I just want something to track gold. I logged on to one toon the other day and found over 900g I had forgotten about. I keep my guys in a family guild so can't use the vault because my dad is the GM and my little brother would steal all my golds, the mooch. I'm almost 34 and my brother is 30 this year and he still steals my stuff like we were kids. I got all my accounts merged into 1 master one that I use when I need to search (remember to set "All Accounts" in the drop down instead of "Realm" for that to work) For account name I just use the equivalent of a1 a2... that shows up when you have all accounts in the drop down - for me it seems that it got all my data not partial (despite some lua errors I filled just after the transfer) - you initiate the transfer from your main and just need to click yes from slaves so I don't think it's a big deal ... but then it will go out of sync - I wish there was a way to transparently keep it in sync - also using multiple computers makes it go slightly out of sync - nevertheless its a lot of progress vs "I can't remember which toon / if any toon has some iron ore..." now I just search and it tells me toon23 in his mail/bank/bags Last edited by Ualaa; 06-07-2010 at 04:10 PM.
