Hey guys, I'm going to be setting up an IRC room for multiboxing.com (integrated on our website) as well as build it into Pwnboxer (that chat button in-game). Problem is, I'm so far behind on IRC stuff that I don't know where to look ![]() Could you guys recommend an IRC server that has a bot to set up for admin purposes, as well as an IRC script I can run on a website to connect? I'm sorta blanked out atm for what to do on this. Thanks

I used to help run Rizon irc network feel free to enlist my expertise. Rizon irc network uses a "hybrid" server named plexus which has a blend of hybrid-ircd server (arguably the toughest best performing, most scalable irc server code available) along with some more common newer admin friendly irc server code such as unrealircd + epona services (arguably the most annoying most unstable ircd ever programmed by bored teenagers) to allow for the use of services bots. Hybrid ircd historically did not have the ability to utilize server services such as hostserv or nickserv, operserv which manage the server. To utilize these services you must have a mysql database server and a linux server to host it all. Many irc network providers desire to provide privacy for users by masking ip addresses or peer users without ircd admin privledges to other users on the same network which was also something that vanilla hybrid ircd was not capable of doing by design. Efnet is such a network that enjoys this freedom from services. In the time I've spent on Rizon irc network Plexus really has grown to fill a niche with sever services for chat where others have fallen short. One of the key features with plexus was the ability to link services bots using ssl connections and provide ssl for users while still utilizing a hybrid ircd foundation. Highly desirable for both privacy and security reasons however this was something many ircd large scalable code don't offer. One irc network named link-net developed an excellent ssl capable hybrid chose not to open source the server code unfortunately so plexus was born. http://code.google.com/p/ircd-rizon/downloads/list As well i've been rambling in a few threads about my mad skillz but nothing says i'm godly like a reference =) Here's 25 pages of references http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t...ight-mono.html Or try the #linux channel on irc.rizon.net and ask about ali3nx Lastly there's many java based scripts for connecting to ircd servers. I believe efnet and quakenet ( the largest irc network in existence) have webchat functionality. you could inspect the source for more information. http://webchat.quakenet.org/ Last edited by xartin; 11-29-2009 at 02:50 PM.

Thanks for the info guys! Any chance some pages that use this I could check out? What about CGI:IRC? When it comes down too it, I basically need something extremely secure that runs client-side, such as a flash -> IRC.

one suggestion just before i run off to work for a few hours... you could try posting a thread in gentoo forums at Gentoo Forums :: Index in networking and security section asking for some advice or try irc.rizon.net on irc and join the #linux channel. I'm certain someone there or on the gentoo forums would have some further advice.

if your interested i could assist by installing a gentoo linux server for you remotely. Assuming your needing a linux server installed that will be rock solid and run like a ferarri ![]() People on every continent but Antarctica have begged me to install gentoo linux servers for them remotely. One of my favorite achievements was assisting with building the initial server image for a terascale gentoo cluster at ucsd they planned on using for biological sciences computing. Perhaps a plexus ircd to top it off and you can use the server for your firewall ^_^
