Smile Near-future MB plan (5 Arcane Mages)

Hello all. I'm going to seriously plan and then execute my goal of multiboxing 5 mages. But first, as stated, planning is needed, so...

- The master account is already using Cataclysm. The other 4 slave accounts, yet to be created, will need full upgrading. According to the math this will cost me approx. $333 Australian dollars.
- Likewise, all accounts will need at least 1-month subscription time. This will cost me approx. $71 Australian dollars for all five.
- The accs will all be under the same name, so transferring items and stuff will be made easier.
- My PC is quite capable of 5-boxing, so no worries there. Pwnboxer will be the software used.
- The toons will all be Mages. They were going to be all Orcs, but since I'm upgrading fully, the race is TBA. Whomever has the best balance of Intellect, base Mana and Mage-efficient racials will be the one chosen. The end goal of this group is to annihilate PvE content as fast as possible with very-few to zero casualties!

So that is the basic plan, one I will be serious about this time.
The quoted prices for getting all 5 accs upgraded and subscribed is a bit of a worry though. I knew it would be high, but it surprised me. Still, I know I can do it. Just wondering how, and if it is truly worth it.

Any help on this subject would be appreciated.

Okay. I'm testing out 5 Orc mages now (old accounts used as patsies before I spend money). Despite RaF still being active on these accounts, I'm not sure they are getting the experience they should.

With RaF active, and 5 toons to the team, should the earliest of mobs like Mottled Boars and Scorpid Workers be giving such low XP? How much is it normally under these conditions??

Your chat log should say something like:
300 experience (200 Recruit a Friend bonus).

To get RAF, you need to meet all of these conditions:
a) The toon is grouped with another toon whose account is directly RAF linked;
b) Both toons are within a fairly short distance of each other;
c) The mob killed or quest completed has not grayed out for either of them;
d) The toons are within +/- four levels of each other.
e) The toons are both level 59 or lower.

If you have five accounts.
And your linking is like this: A > B > C > D > E.
Even if you were to boost with an 85 on "A", BCDE would all receive RAF if they met the previous conditions; B would not meet RAF conditions with A (because of conditions "d" and "e"), but would still get RAF because of their link to C.

Yea definitely chat/combat log should reveal it.

The 5 Orc Mages I'm testing with are performing quite well, however the level-up process is quite slow.

I am thinking of raising gold and justice points to buy heirlooms for all five toons (the heirloom ring is too bothersome to acquire). Together with guild perks and RaF they should very-quickly rise in levels. However the "problem" comes from having to fully-upgrade all 5 accounts, which will cost me the earlier-quoted price.

WoW is not a cheap MMORPG to begin with, when you multiply x5 you should know what to expect ;-)

Good luck with the group though.

I remember my last group was a bit annoying in the very low levels, because the xp from killing mobs is ridiculously low (but then again, i didn't have RAF) When you start hitting the random dungeons it all goes much quicker.
On that note, you won't be able to get the random dungeon teleport with 5 mages (no tank/no heals), you will need to actually get to the instances by yourself.
Thankfully mages get teleport early enough.

Right now Tim, it isn't going anywhere. The account I used for the Master of the 5-box team got banned. Doesn't look like it will be unbanned anytime soon either.
I'm also broke right now, so I'll have to wait until I have the funds to restart this whole plan - again!

The last time I attempted to use the 5x Orcs didn't go well. I tried running them through Ragefire Chasm but it didn't work out because the various toons kept dieing to the mobs, no matter what I was blasting them with. Orcs aren't the best race for Mages IMO, but they were my only choice since I didn't have the 4 slave accounts up'd to Cata (or at least BC so I could have made 5x Blood Elves).

An update. My very-first battle.net account has been restored, so once I get paid I can create two more accounts and start a tri-box plan. I'll be experimenting with various classes whilst I do this.

Also, I'll be planning to join this forum's guilds, if you'll have me. Do yous have one for both Alliance and Horde, or just the latter?
