To be clear, just because Blizzard put something into their game for addons, which execute themselves within the game, and thus Blizzard has full control over the addon's execution, does NOT mean that Blizzard allows outside programs, which Blizzard has no control over its execution, to have free reign over what it decides to do. This includes going against the 1 keystroke = 1 game action general rule.

As with tons of things in life, the debate can go on for both sides of any issue.

However, if you want to ensure your account has zero chance of Blizzard banning it, I highly recommended staying far away from this sort of action.

TLDR: Blizzard addon rules != Multiboxing software rules

The big point here is this:

Blizzard's API is for Blizzard, and code that Blizzard deems able to interact with WoW (Eg, Addons), to utilize. Just because Blizzard creates API for addons, does not mean that outside software can interface with WoW in a manner not normally able to be done so by traditional means. This means the whole concept of Blizzard API should be dropped from the conversation entirely. Blizzards internal API just has no relevance.

This is specifically why I say that feature is very, very shady, and I believe it to not be out of question for Blizzard to start banning users because it potentially goes over the border into the bot software/automation area.

Due to the nature of this conversation of a potentially shady/bannable "feature", I think it is important to make users aware of who developed this feature in IS Boxer.

Let me quote something for you:

Quote:
Blizzard sued Glider, a bot/automation software created to cheat in World of Warcraft, for $6,000,000.
Pretty serious stuff, Blizzard sues and wins against the Glider bot/cheat program.

Quote:
(Blizzards lawsuit proof here) 148. At one point, after Blizzard developed a new method of detecting Glider, Donnelly sought and received help from Joseph Thaler who sold (Case 2:06-cv-02555-DGC Document 40 Filed 03/21/2008 Page 26 of 45)
information about Blizzard’s new detection measures to MDY for $18,000. (Nov. 9, 2007 Dep. of Joseph Thaler, Ex. 28 at 48:3 - 49:21).
So this Joe Thaler guy contributed to Glider on how to break Blizzard's anti-cheat protection.

Guess who is the developer behind IS Boxer?

Quote:
(is boxer domain lookup history)
Registrant:
Lavish Software
PO Box 90012
Wyoming, Michigan 49519
United States
Technical Contact:
Thaler, Joe
Lavish Software
In summary, as noted by the information above, the developer behind IS Boxer, Joe Thaler, is also responsible for cheat/hack programs that Blizzard sued into oblivion.

The reason why I caution users over gray features is further reinforced by the fact that the developer of these gray features personally contributed to the botting/cheating problem in World of Warcraft.

Fair enough.

What the software sends and what the addon recognizes is essentially the same thing. As long as the warcraft API allows an addon to interpret press and release key states as separate inputs, a given software can have both its key presses and key releases interpreted as separate events. If Blizzard ever chose to remove this functionality from the addon environment, a given software could still send press and release events but the game would only recognize the default state (ie., the release of a key).

Anyway, my ISP is acting up and not letting me upload pictures... Any suggestions on a site for uploading a few screenshots of the warcraft interface?

The final copy of the Keyboard IWT stuff, will be: simple, short, concise and software neutral.

The past is the past.

Lax has not been involved with game hacks/bots/cheats in over four years. In that time, not one person out of thousands of users, have been banned from World of Warcraft or any other game.

Similarly, Mousecloner resulted in bans in the past, but your current software Pwnboxer is safe.

I will admit that my posting about this comes across rather strongly, but I really do worry for other people and for the multiboxing concept at large. All it could take is 1 rotten apple (ie, shady multiboxing software) to bring the whole acceptance of multiboxing to a complete halt with game developers closing the doors to it forever.

Lax has proven he will do anything to make a buck. If Glider wasn't sued into the ground by Blizzard I don't see any indication that Lax wouldn't continue working on hacks/cheats. He simply goes where the money is without any remorse towards the damage his actions result in.

This is further evidenced by Lax also having worked for a gold farming / powerleveling company.

This is even more evidenced by Lax also coming to me with an offer to ditch the entire DB community if I could guide him on how to make his software sell even more copies. I bet you didn't know that he actually offered that?

Because of this, everybody in the entire community, gamers + software makers alike, need to wear "kid gloves" and be very, very gentle, and bad apples should be composted.

Oh and Mousecloner never resulted in any bans. In fact, people buy it every day, which amazes me. Those people I asked say they use it in conjunction with other multiboxing softwares. I've often pondered shutting it down, because honestly I don't need the money. I only keep it open because the software is useful to other people and they want me to keep it open.

Also, comparing my contributions to gaming communities against his is only going to strengthen my argument. I have a history of over a decade supporting MMO gaming, supporting millions of gamers worldwide, dating back to the first real graphical MMO, Ultima Online, where I was personally awarded a hand signed certificate from the president of the company (Richard Garriott, widely known as the father of all MMORPGs) for my contributions and support of the gaming community. Lax, on the other hand, is bad apple after bad apple.

Edit: Still <3 Ualaa

"Here's the thing - that's not 5 actions. It's one action, per character.

It would not be okay, if, for example, you had those macros set up so that you had one button to cast frost nova, wait out the global cooldown, blink, delay for global cooldown, then cast blizzard all in a single button press. That is, of course, several button presses.

So, to expand your definition: 'safe' multi-boxing commands are one button press = one action per character."

Blizzard choose to include that functionality in their API code for addons to use. Some software options include an addon as part of the software and others do not. Without an addon to interpret this for Warcraft, you cannot use this functionality.

The thread with one keystroke = 1 action has been misquoted hundreds of times.

The GM was rather specific on what constitutes botting; specifically if every action is a result of an input you do then and there, you're fine. For example having a single key output both W for forward movement and Q for strafing left, for as long as the key is held is completely fine, since the action (forward + strafe) is a direct result of your input.

But if you can push (or release) a key or click the mouse now, have something occur now and then without any further input from the user have the software do something different at a later time, and then another action a few seconds after that, again without any further input from the user -- that is more than one action from a single input.

I'll find the one keystroke = 1 action rule, and link it to be crystal clear.
I have macaroon, I tried it just to see if it was possible, and it doesn't seem to be, even though normal wow keybinding, has it activate the keybind, on down press, binding that same key on Macaroon, bypasses the keybind on wow's binding, or better working overrides it, as if it wasn't bound by wow. Only if there was a way to bind it directly to Macaroon, you have any idea if thats possible??

PS Haven't tried snowfall, bindpad has the same type of option, with the same result, difference being that it seems to work thru the same binding signal as wow.

I've never used any of these addons, but am told they use the Keyboard API functionality for press and release.

Another addon that does this is Bindpad. Have not used that either.

Snowfall attempts to execute on press and release, for a slight edge in PvP, rather then the standard execute on release. So you cast/use your spells/abilities a fraction of a second sooner than without the addon.

If you bind something in Macaroon, Dominos or Bartender, the bar will take precedence over the default Blizzard bindings. You'll want your ability bound in Macaroon, but I'm not sure where you'd go or how you would set up one action on press and another on release. Obviously, you'd need at least one ability that is off of the Global Cooldown, otherwise the first would fire off and the second could never fire off.

In the original argument of press/release (on the other site) like here, a lot of people freaked out despite it being functionality that Blizzard put into the game and that software cannot use without the Blizzard API (ie, would stop working the instant Blizzard removed the functionality, even if the software tried to continue using it). Quite a few people mentioned addons they use which had the functionality in game already. Macaroon, Snowfall and Bindpad were those addons, but I've not used any of them myself.
