Multiboxing with Tim - Attempting Utgarde Keep with the Pallies

Hey all,

Just a note that I've made a few improvements to my 4x Pally 1x DK group, and I am going to see if I can tackle Utgarde Keep again, and maybe even do a few quests in the WOTLK area.

The last time we tried Utgarde Keep we had some major tanking problems. Well, I've since beefed the tank up a tiny bit, leveled him twice, and I even got my healer a little better gear.

Well Utgarde Keep totally obliterated us. It was mayham, all the way. The problem is the DK tank is soo squishy.

Hmm I had an 80 ret tank it with full relentless heh. The last boss in utgarde keep is bugged out and the smash is aoe and not conal anymore. I had to solo him with my guys behind the pillar.

The problem is that utgarde is designed for gear. It isn't that the DK is squishy. You need full 70+ gear or 70 epics to tank it properly. On my pally I hit 70 the day before 80 came out and I wasn't able to multibox utgarde keep until I was about 74-75 and got some decent tank and stamina gear. You may also want to try blood tank for self heals.

So do not be discouraged. It is not your skill or the DK. You are just lacking the proper gear. If you watched the videos for the first instance of Cata you will notice that full epic ICC people are having some difficulty doing it. You are attempting it with blues and greens. Give it to 74-75 and I bet you will be golden.

You will want to maybe solo all of the instances and do the blue quests for the dk to get the tank rewards. That + a few drops should be enough.

I'm fine with the heroics being hard, but the first instance being that hard with even the best gear basically takes a crap on anyone who just rolled or doesn't have the gear. It's best to make the challenging stuff end game, but I am all for that endgame challenge.

I actually really like the idea of all the content being ridiculously hard. It'll mean that people will have to plan and do all that jazz just to get through a regular instance. But then again, 'unfortunately' blizzard DO need to think of the noobs at least somewhat.

I tried UK with my 5x DK's last night and got my ass handed to me.

I could do the pulls (1x70, 4x68) it was just having to wait to heal after each one.

I am going to quest them all to 70 (easy! 600k exp and 25k a quest?!)

Then I am going to have my 450 BlackSmith make a round of cobalt gear for all of them.

level 58 basic DK starter gear -> level 70 WotLK gear. plus they'll all get a str bonus, and the defense should be near cap for a 70(? need to confirm, it'll be decent though).

Then I just need to find a quest blue/green weapon.

EDIT: Looks like I am headed to Borean Tundra to do the quest line there. Blue 2h! 118dps (30dps increase over my current weapon.)
