Default Multi-Stream question for Tim

Hi Tim, I have been looking through the forums this morning and have not been able to find a post about how you run multiple streams from a simultaneous signal.

I was curious if you're running multiple BM Intensity cards, multiple instances of FME with affinity on different CPUs or something else?

If you could let me know I'd greatly appreciate it. (And maybe add it to your streaming guide )

Hey there!

Basically I have an absolutely monster system so I just run 3 instances of FME to stream to JTV. So I have 1 VHScrCap set up, and all 3 FMEs point to that VHScrCap and I just go to town.

However, this uses a lot of CPU.

I have a Intel 980x EE ($1100cpu) which is 6 core (12 hyperthread cpus in windows) and each FME uses approx 10%-15% CPU. On my quad core Q9650, one FME uses about 50% of my CPU. Starcraft actually only takes 1%-2% cpu (vs 30%-50% for all 3 FMEs). I don't do any CPU assignments because it really doesn't need to happen, however, on a normal CPU I would.

Oh and the new FME 3.1 supports this by default I believe though I haven't tested.

I was wondering if you guys determined if 3.1 does multicast to 3 different channels?

and if so, how did you accomplish that?

I'll give you guys a sneak preview secret, coming from a JTV admin (me).

In the very near future, JTV will automatically have this feature built-in. So if you stream a high quality, JTV will automatically have buttons for people to instead watch in 720p, 480p, etc.
