Only macros "specific to that character" (i.e. the 2nd tab) are stored server side. If you didn't back up your WTF folder, all of your "General" macros are gone permanently.

I think you meant to say that these (specific to that character) are stored on your local machine (in macros-cache.txt files).

Actually were both sorta wrong...

{path}\World of Warcraft\WTF\{Account Name}\macros-cache.wtf is where general macros are stored.

{path}\World of Warcraft\WTF\{Account Name}\{Server}\{Toon Name}\macros-cache.wtf is where toon specific macros are stored.

I know some of them are stored on the server... but I am not sure which ones?

If its the first time since logging in, in the WTF folder for each toon (for the toon specific macros) or in the WTF folder for the account in general (for the account shared macros), you'll find something like: macros.old.

You can rename these files macros.txt.

The next time you log into warcraft, you'll have the previous macros instead of the new ones.

Basically, when you make changes to macros, the current (prior to change) macros are then saved as macros.old. This is in addition to the server side storage. I've recovered lost macros in this way before, when transferring a toon from one account to another.

*Edit*
Not sure if the macro extension is .txt or .wtf.
Whatever it is, rename .old to .whatever.
