Default Intel i7-980X Reviewed: Live video of Tim unboxing and setting up the I7-980X CPU!

For your PC nuts out there, today we will be doing a special live video review of the newest, absolutely most monsterous gaming CPU on the market today: The Intel I7-980X CPU. This processor is the highest end desktop CPU that money can buy. With 6 CPU cores, with a standard 3.3GHZ clockspeed, and fully overclockable, this CPU will melt your heart.

How will this CPU fare for multiboxing? Our guess is that you could run 40+ World of Warcrafts on a single PC using this processor.

Previously Tim (the founder of this site as well as the owner of the Pwnboxer multiboxing software) was using the voraciously fast i7 975 Extreme Edition as his gaming CPU. Don't get us wrong, that processor is a beast. However, if the 975EE is a beast, than the 980X is a solar system. Yes, it is all that and a bag of black holes!

Tonight at approx. 4pm CST, Tim will be streaming live then full unboxing of this i7-980X CPU and will be installing it into his gaming system. You can watch this stream live here: Justin.tv/Multiboxing

His specs:
  • Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Motherboard
  • i7 980X Hexacore CPU (6 cores)
  • 12,288 MBytes OCZ RAM
  • EVGA Geforce 295GTX OC Graphics Card (dual graphic card PCB)
  • 2xWestern Digital 10,000 RPM RAID C:
  • 1x Seagate 1.5G 7,200 RPM D:
  • 128G Patriot Solid State Drive S:| (WoW is installed here)
Here is a little juicy primer to get you guys excited!

Oh yea, I'm still selling my prior i7 975Extreme Edition (I paid $1199.99) for $600. If you are interested, send me a PM, I believe there were a few people interested and it is one helluva deal

Nope I haven't opened it yet. I bought it from a local store, and the box actually shows the CPU on it.

Stream goes live in slightly less than 2 hours!!!

I would feel really bad if I had sold you a fake 980X. We sell so many intel CPUs because of our pricing that we don't have to use shady providers. I'm excited to see why that box was so damn big. Hopefully we will get more in because i had 2 other customers ask for the 980x after you left. ^^

Holy crap guys, this thing is amazing!

I rebuilt my PC while streaming it on JTV. At one point there were over 800 people watching, very interesting, I had expected maybe only 50 or so.

Thanks to the help all on overclocking my CPU. I'm happily troding along at 4GHZ and a high score of 27205 3dmarks, whoot!

I'm still such a noob when it comes to OC'ing. I've read a guy getting 4.4ghz, but realistically, do we need that much speed. I can't get my system to go above 4.0ghz, but it is very stable, I'm in the middle of 1hr long of Prime95 right now. I'm doing 25x 160mhz and set the CPU to 1.375v.

I mostly need the extra cores and speed for doing multiple streams at once. I suppose the next big thing is a new graphics card. I hear the 5870 is the best now?
