Default If you were building the perfect MMORPG, what would it be?

If you were building the perfect MMORPG, what would it be?

I had a crazy dream last night that I was putting together a gaming studio to build the worlds first real-life mirroring MMORPG. Essentially a MMO that utilizes real-world occurances as the world in which you play. So basically in this MMO, you'd create your character in one of 1000s of cities across Earth, go to school, beat kids up, meet girls, grow up, buy a gun, and shoot people. Just like real life.

So yea, I was thinking, if you were to build a MMO, what would you have in it? What would the world setting be and the culture of everything around it?

Not to sound crazy but I've often thought about assembling a team of developers and designers and actually building a MMO. Imagine that, a MMO built by a gaming community!

Well Tim, you have someone who is getting a degree in Computer Science so you would have a programmer to work on said game

My MMORPG would be a first person shooter. Only there are no weapons skills. It is all twitch (your skill, not a formula like hit%=gunskill/distance+randomcrap*24). Pretty much is a mix of Unreal Tournament and Borderlands

If you could implement it, with top level graphics and a good adaption of the rules, Rifts (Palladium Games) would make a phenominal setting for an online game. Not sure that they would be willing to let someone do a game based on their setting or not.

My perfect game would include:

A mixture of player skill and character skill.
A ton of customization features, both for the appearance of the toon and for talents/skills etc.

Imagine having 100 points to invest at character creation, out of a ton of options (say 1,000) which detemines what kind of a mage you are. Rather then the wow talents, where everyone is one of three or four builds.

My perfect game, would of course need to be boxable. You'd want a strong macro system, but you'd want to disable loops and timed events, so everything was a result of direct input. No point in having botters running around killing the economy.
