Default How does multiboxing cost much money at all?

So say I want to multibox 5 characters over a one month span. I use my main account for the first toon, then make 4 RAF accounts. Now, the faq says I get a free month when a RAF account upgrade to a premium account, so even though I payed for a total of 4 months, it's just like I paid for the next 4 on my main account? What am I missing?

Sorry, I only use one account currently and it's the same one I made almost 4 years ago.

You are missing the actual cost of the games themselves

Your initial cost is going to be $29.99 per copy of Classic/BC (Battlechest FTW) plus $39.99 when you upgrade to WotLK

Thats $119.96 for the games, and another $159.96 for the upgrade when you do it.

Then you dont get the months free on the Referring account until you pay on the RaF accounts, so another $60 for the first paid month. This will give you 4 free months on the referrer, assuming all your RaF accounts pay for their first paid month.

After that, it becomes $15 / month / account. $75 monthly for 5-boxing, with initial upfront costs coming to about $400 or so

What if I just wanted to go to 60. Isn't that 20$ and you get a month? So I'd only have a net loss of 20$ since each of the 4 accounts had to pay an extra 5$ for the game.

Or are you saying the free month isn't awarded until the RAF buys the game and an additional month?

Okay so for going 60 you would need:

5 copies of World of Warcraft (seen them easily go for $19.99)

Recruit A Friend chain for 4 free months of play (1 main has to pay, 4 others donate 1 month).

$14.95 per month minus the 4x14.95.

Also, the free month is not awarded until you actually upgrade those guys I believe.

Yes they have to be upgraded and pay for 1 month.

So you're saying that when the 4 slave accounts buy the game for 20$, it doesn't count as an upgrade and I get no free months? So each account would need to pay 35$? (for the game/1month) Doesn't the game for 20$ give you a month?

First month free when you buy the game (or if you choose to look at it this way, the game is $5 and the first month is $15)

The referrring account gets no freebies until the referred accounts pay for their first month

Breakdown:

Month 1 - $20 for the game x 5 == $100
Month 2 - everyone pays for their first month == $15 x 5 == $75
Months 3 through 6 - Referred accounts pay for their month, Referring gets month free from referral == $15 x 4 acccounts == $60 x 4 months == $240

After 6 months, your monthly WoW costs are now $75 monthly
Total cost after 6 months for Vanilla 5-boxing: $415
