High Latency

Hey Guys,

Has anyone noticed that with 1 character logged into wow you get a nice low ping (ms) E.G 30ms - 40ms and then when you log all 5 characters into WoW your ping on all of them goes from 30ms to over 250ms?

I have checked my net connection in full, I ping any UK website with 9ms, even when all my characters are all logged in however in-game I get 250+ms but if I just log in with 1 account I get 30ms.

This means that the issue is neither a client side or server side issue and the only other reason would be either:

A) An issue with pawnboxer
B) WoW just can't handle it

Am I the only one seeing this?

P.S My Upload Speed is 700k Up and Download Is 2000K down. (Fiber Optic)

Hey there,

Well it definitely is not Pwnboxer, because the live version of Pwnboxer doesn't touch or do anything that would impact your network connection.

Also, 5boxing WoW uses between 200-400kbps download, so that isn't really all that much.

What are you pinging? To verify things, your best bet is to ping your next hop up (eg, your own cable modem, or your own router, etc).

Just going by the in-game ping, if you mouse over the frame in the interface.

Sometimes, there will be a rather large discrepancy in latency from one warcraft to another. Say in the neighborhood if 30-40ms for three games, with the other two games at 240ms. Which is rather odd, since all five are running on a single PC.

For the most part, they're all in the 50-150ms range, usually closer to 100 or so.

So even though I I normally ping 30ms with 1, playing with 5 accounts getting 100ms+ is fine?

It might be.

Not sure if there's a setting which is off or not.
But a variable ping, in and of itself, is not necessarily wrong/bad.

And 100ms is not really that much of an issue anyway.
That is 1/10th of a second.
So at the longest, your toon changes target, the server realizes this 1/10th or a second later, your assist key is hit and the slaves switch 1/10th of a second after that. Tops, the switch takes .3 or .4 seconds.

Well, lower is better.
But 100ms is very playable.

A note: Don't judge anything by in-game ping because that actually isn't ping at all. To judge your network connection, just open up a command prompt and ping google.com -t

Yup thats why I know my net is fine, I did tracert and pings.
Ive narrowed it down now to the server. It seems on other servers ping is 30ms and 50ms but on the server i am on its 299ms+ even though the server i slocated in the UK/france were i should get a great ping. ive opened a ticket with blizz.

Every server is different and everything from physical distance to the realm population and impact your latency.

By the way, the in-game WoW latency also has nothing to do with ping/icmp reply. Go ahead and try it yourself, ping the actual server and compare it against what WoW is telling you. They will be 2 completely different numbers.

You can find the server IP by doing a netstat in command prompt and looking at the connections.

Look at the bright side, you could have my problem and get random throttling of your TCP/IP connections which lead to full team DCs
