| I've been thinking about putting together something fun for charity but I'm not sure the best one to pick. One thing that has always bothered me is the potential for misuse of trust when it comes down to charities. Back in the early 90s I remember hearing things such as charity CEO's paying themselves deep 6 figures and huge bonuses and such. Those things bother me to the point where I'm a bit wary of charities in general. So with that said, what do you guys think is the best charity to donate to with a strong US presence? The charity must have a strong internet presence, be registered with the IRS as a charity, and have some sort of internet program for contributions that recognizes a grand total for the charity raising entity. |

| Super Moderator | There were a few charities TheSpeedGamers raised money for. These include St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Susan G. Komen, Ally’s House, ACT Today, and The Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation. Any of those might be a good choice

| I'd go the route of SGK if not for the rife allegations of fraud, misuse of funds, and many other things. A little googling and you won't like them either ![]() For NFCR do they list the actual percentage of a dollar that goes directly into cancer research? I haven't found it anywhere on their website. A big thing to note in any charity is this: What % of your donation goes to the actual charity (versus paying for the charities executive team, bonuses, company perks, etc)? This should be a very high %. Does the charity publish in a highly auditable format (by KPMG preferred) where all contributions are going to? Charities like Susan G Koman for example have very bad image of fraud and deception of giving money to abortion clinics, paying high executive salaries, etc. For me, I'm just worried that a charitable donation ends up being misused due to personal greed of the charity executives. That is why I'm trying hard to pick the right charity instead of falling victim to advertising and picking a bad charity. |
