If the keyframes causes you to break your bandwidth ceiling, your video will skip as you pump through that data burst in less than realtime. Our suggested 10 second keyframe has that skip happen every 10 seconds. While it may certainly improve movement quality at 1 second keyframes, the skip would occur every second.
Hmm. Why do keyframes exist then? If you're striving for the best quality, and you have unlimited bandwidth, wouldn't you use 1 second keyframe? In my case, I'm limited by my upload, but with .95mbps upload I have been streaming at 700x400/30 fps with 750 bitrate and a 3 second keyframe without lag spikes in my game.

Also, no one commented about my .bat file core affinity. I can't get fme to start on 1 core, and I have to manually change it via Task Manager each startup. And, the guide suggests the last core, but for an i7 w/ turbo boost wouldn't it be better to use the first core?

I myself use keyframes, and I use 7 second ones. The reason is always a quality over quantity of who can view things. A 7 second keyframe reduces bandwidth considerably and seems to work well for PC gaming in my experience.

I personally don't use the .bat affinity so can't answer there. I would actually not use it at all with your PC.

Thing is, I only get 60 frames in game if I set FMEcmd to 1 core via Task Manager. Otherwise, with Win 7 default affinity, FMEcmd uses 4 cores, and my game is sub 60 fps. How could you not use .bat affinity if FME 2.5 VP6 can only use 1 core?

Ok, so just wanted to say thank you for the great guide. I do have some issues though.

First ill let you know my setup to see if its just simply a hardware issue.

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 945 Denab 3.0ghz quad-core
RAM: 8gig OCZ Reaper DDR2-1066
GPU: Geforce GTX 260
HDD1: 750gig Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm
HDD2: 640gig WDCB 7200rpm
Monitors: 2x Acer H233H 23" at 1920x1080

Basically whenever i stream anything above 1280x720 my latency goes from 95-100 up to 400-500 which makes the game unplayable. Also whenever I stream anything my CPU goes from 25% usage up to 100% and hovers between 95%-100% usage for the duration of the stream.

The settings i currently use are:

VHScrCap captures at 1920x1080 with 30fps.
FME Resizes the capture to 1280x720
I use a 800 bit rate(i tried 1000, but i had severe frame drops)
FME then outputs to justin.tv at 1280x720 with 30fps.

I would love to capture and stream at 1920x1080, but I just cannot sustain a stable stream.

This is my current connection.

Any help, or suggestions will be appreciated.

Don't let FME do the resizing. Set VHScrCap to 'Resize to output' and simply have FME take in input at '1280x720'. You'll get better results. You also might have a bandwidth issue. 800 is pretty low for a 720p broadcast.

Be sure to multibox with Pwnboxer Multiboxing Software just because its better than the rest.

Yeah i have tried 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500, but I get alot of drops. at 1500 i had 1000+ drops in the first 10 minutes.

Ok, so 1000 works fine, and i can stream 1500 without drops, letting vh multicam resize it, so that fme can output at its capture size. However streaming at either 1000 or 1500 my latency goes up to 200, which is a drastic decrease in performance, and the delay for skill usage is too great.

Hey everyone..
I've successfully set up a stream but there is a problem. The video keeps flickering when i am streaming..

My native resolution is 1024x768 and i've set the xml to that as well.
Bitrate is set to 500
Keyframe is set to 10 seconds

It flickers only when i enter into games not when i am on desktop

Does anyone know the cause of this?

Flickering is mainly dependent on the game, and can usually be solved by playing in Windowed mode.

As for my problems, FME (2.5cmd or 3.1 regular, doesn't matter) in VP6 will FREEZE my screen randomly while I broadcast, causing me to have to restart my entire computer. This ONLY happens with VP6, and it happens randomly. Could happen minutes after I start the broadcast, or hours after I have been casting. I thought it might be because my computer lacked video Codecs, but I have tried the K-lite full Codec Pack AND the Win7 Codec Pack from Majorgeeks, but the problem still persists.

Update 1:
In all 49 pages, there only seems to be one other person with this random system lock-up & crash. It is definitely not my CPU or memory, as I have run P95 for 12+ hours straight with absolutely 0 errors, and LinX for 30+ mins without any errors.

Update 2:
I think it may happen because of having other flash videos open while streaming. (ie. My own stream via Justin Tv, or youtube videos) I have looked forever on google, and pretty much every FME related forum (Justin.tv forums, Ustream Forums, Livestream Forums, Stickam Forums, Adobe Forums, and Here...) and I can't for the life of me find the solution to this huge issue.

I have a HD 5870 with the latest drivers (7/26/10) and an i7 920 OC'd to 3.4 ghz completely stable.

Update 3:
Here is a thread of someone who has the exact same problem, but there's no replies at all.

I thought I had solved the problem by "Disabling Hardware Acceleration" in Flash in Firefox, and I had streamed for 8+ hours straight without any issues. But, screen freeze / system crash eventually happened again.

I'm almost 100% sure it has something to do with flash being open in Firefox, as I don't ever crash if I don't have my JTV page open in Firefox.
