| Tim does not have a dedicated encoding system anymore. All of his capture/encoding/broadcasting is done via his gaming system. And yes, the 980x is an i7. Its built like an i9, but its still an i7.

2nd. AMD is better at MSRP, doesn't mean you cant get them cheaper. And the x6 core thing is a gimmick. 3rd. U just drop some money on a AMD maybe u would consider dropping some more instead of building a dedicated encoding machine. Here are things to consider.... FME 2.5 VPS is single threaded this means it can maximize 1 CPU core. In the case of your AMD x6 it can utilize 1/6 of total processor. Or use FME 2.5 to try to encode at h.256 which use multi-thread. FME also require that you stay within 75% of a cpu.... so that means each thread utilization cannot hit 75% or you hit encoding issues. Using the op's 980x core he has a total of 12 cores using HT (6 Real core and 6 Virtual core) = 100/12= 8.3333 How the ops configure his FME to use 10% is really interesting. Assuming op use VPS and it can only use a max of 8.2%.... Now I said to use those as reference because assuming the ops use 980x and its taking up a full core, you would need to use that to determine can your cpu podcast at higher resolution. And finally... Op confirmed he has a godly CPU that does all the encoding and gaming without an dedicated encoder box. Last edited by Blindman; 05-15-2010 at 08:34 PM.

I have an X-FI myself. I have streamed online before with no issues. Before I try to help here, I wanted to confirm we are talking about the same type of sound card.

| SETTING UP USING FME 2.5 (THE EASIER WAY): Step #1 - SETUP YOUR JTV ACCOUNT Setup your JTV at Justin.tv - Streaming live video broadcasts for everyone Step #2 - GET AHOLD OF FME 2.5 AND VHSCRCAP Currently, FME 2.5 isn't openly available from Adobe now that FMLE 3.1 is out. However, you can still get here: http://www.adobe.com/go/fme25 Install it. Download VHScrCap: http://hmelyoff.lgg.ru/VHSC_inst.exe Install it. Step #3 - CREATE AN EASY TO FIND FOLDER FOR YOUR FME FILES This folder will hold your .bat file (Created in Step #4) and your .xml profile file (created in Step #5). Make it somewhere that is easy to find. A folder called "FME" located in "C:\" will work perfectly. Go ahead and create it. Step #4 - SETUP VHSCRCAP Run the VHScrCap config program C:\Program Files (x86)\Hmelyoff\VHScrCap\Config.exe Select "Create new one" Click on Settings. Set Frame Rate to 30 Make sure "Align Video", "Show Mouse", "Show Clicks", "Resize to output size", and "Keep Aspect" are the only options checked. Click on "Capture" Make sure everything is unchecked. Click on Select Click anywhere on the screen that will hold what you're going to capture. Close the config program Step #5 - SETUP YOUR .BAT FILE This file is a command script that will start up the command line version of FME 2.5. Open up notepad and insert the following text into it: Modify your FME.bat to include this if you have a hyperthread quad-core CPU such as the i7. Code: CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Flash Media Encoder 2.5" start /affinity 80 /high FMEcmd.exe /p c:\fme\justin.xml Code: CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Flash Media Encoder 2.5" start /affinity 8 /high FMEcmd.exe /p c:\fme\justin.xml Code: CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Flash Media Encoder 2.5" start /affinity 2 /high FMEcmd.exe /p c:\fme\justin.xml Code: CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Flash Media Encoder 2.5" start /high FMEcmd.exe /p c:\fme\justin.xml Start up the FME 2.5 GUI. Under "FMS URL" use "rtmp://live.justin.tv/app" Under "Stream" use the code located at Create and share live video. It should read like "live_1234567_XXXXXXXX" Save this profile under "C:\fme\" as "justin.xml" Now, let's finish setting up our options. Under "Device", make sure "VHScrCap" is selected. If "VHMultiCam" opens up without you doing so, then follow these side-steps. SIDE-STEPS to disable VHMultiCam auto-start. Open up VHMultiCam. Under Tools make sure "Disable Auto Start" is the only option checked. Close VHMultiCam. Under "Format" select "VP6". Using the little wrench icon next to that, put in the following settings: Keyframe Frequency: 10 seconds Quality : Good Quality - Good Framerate (This can be lowered if your CPU can't handle it) Noise Reduction : Slight Datarate Window: Medium CPU Usage: Dedicated Set Frame Rate to 30.00 Input Size: 1920x1080. This should reflect your screen resolution. If you have problem holding 30 FPS during your streams or if your monitor is not a 16:9 aspect natively(1920x1080 or 1280x720), see these notes about adjusting this to a non-native resolution. Adjusting for 16:10 and other non-native resolutions: If you don't have a monitor that runs at any of the input sizes listed or your setup can't handle full-resolution streaming, you'll need to do these extra steps in FME. Select the lowest resolution that will accomidate your screen width and height (both must fit within the selected resolution). If you need to set it for a lower resolution due to system resources, test each resolution one by one till you get to the best one that will work. Make sure you have "Preview: Input Video" checked and that you can see the video preview. Check "Crop" under Video. An adjustable box should have appeared over your video preview. Adjust the sliders so that it conforms to your actual screen display. When you stream, only the area in the box will be streamed. Bit Rate: 1200 - 1500 This value is dependent on your bandwidth capacity. The values listed should give you good quality streaming at 1920x1080. Higher bandwidth = higher quality potential. Also note that you will use more CPU power at higher bandwidth. Also note that the more bandwidth you use, the more resources your viewers will need to use. Try not to push it past 2000 Kbps. If your bandwidth can't handle these values, you should consider lowering your FPS or your resolution to where it is sustainable at a constant FPS. If you aren't able to sustain at least 1000 Kbps upload for FME, you won't be able to broadcast in true HD. Make sure the remaining options under "Video" are all unchecked. Under Audio: Device: This needs to be some variety of "Stereo Mix" or "What U Hear". Under FME 2.5, only your default input device is available. You will need to go into your Windows sound settings and Enable "Stereo Mix" and set it as the default. You will need to restart FME after this, so save your profile. Also, use your volume controls that are built into windows to adjust levels for your mic so that you can be clearly heard over the action in-game. Format: MP3 Channels: Stereo Sample Rate: 44100 Hz Bit Rate: 96-128 Kbps. More is always better, but 96 is very good and 128 is next to loss-less. This number is also added to your video bitrate, so those two numbers combined can't exceed your upload capacity. Volume: Crank it up. If you're too loud, your viewers can always turn you down. However, they can only turn you up so much. Save your profile. You're all set now. When you start up FMEcmd.bat, a black box will appear on your screen. Be quick to move it out of your capture area (or minimize it). Your streamID will be visible briefly a few moments after you start it up and that is all someone needs to hijack your stream. If you need to make adjustments, simply close the stream and open up FME again to make the adjustments.

| I have a small problem which is causing me a headache. I have a q6600 overclocked to 3.2 ghz and I set up everything the guide says and it's working perfect EXCEPT the part where I add the affinity and core to the bat file I have a q6600 so I set it up like this CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Flash Media Encoder 2.5" start /affinity 8 /high FMEcmd.exe /p c:\fme\console.xml The problem is, it just wont register that change. I save that in the bat file and go check the task bar and there is no change, all cpu cores are checked and its at normal. Does the part where it says "c:\fme\console.xml" have to direct where the bat file is located? I tried alot of things but it still wont register the affinity and cores at start Any ideas? |
