Default Battlenet (Please Read)

(the Information below is directly lifted from wow.com)

In an interview over at Slashdot, J. Allen Brack, Lead Producer of WoW, spoke about the Battle.net conversion that's going on and how it will apply to WoW. One of the more important things he said was:

We have optional Battle.net conversion right now, but that will be mandatory at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Many people have done the conversion already, and many speculated and inferred from past Blizzard comments that the conversion would eventually become mandatory. But now it looks like it's going to be, and that date is in the "not-too-distant future."

The conversion process is relatively straight forward, and can be started by visiting your account management page. There have been times when Battle.net enabled accounts were not able to get into the game due to authentication issues, but those seem to be diminishing.

We'll be sure to keep you updated on any additional announcements concerning the upcoming mandatory conversion

(My personal experience below)

Now, I missed out on the Mountain Dew bot, they wrapped up that promotion on August 20. I had a Blizzard rep set my account up last night. The reason being is that I had messed up my recruit-a-friend chain and had asked them to fix it. They did at the cost of me losing my chars on my 1 account, but that is another story entirely. Anyways, the process took nearly no time and login is slightly longer with drop down menus and the added millisecond wait time while it confirms your login before you hit the character select screen. But if this is the direction Blizzard is going, well then its not so horrifying.

Just to give you a quick explination about that screenshot. Those first 3 friends are Battlenet friends. You can see when they're online not matter what game they're playing, as long as they're on battlenet. It's REALLY cool. I'm totally geeking over the battlenet changes.

Something to keep in mind is that you can only put 8 Wow's on one Battle.net account. You can, however, have two accounts which is what I did.

Currently : Starcraft, Diablo 2 (I think WoW is only connected to B.net, but doesn't really use it like the other 2 games)
To come : B.net v2 with : Starcraft 2, Diablo 3
