Going to start farming this drop. Want to make sure my plan is correct.

Go to Forge of Souls, kill ALL trash up to first boss. Exit, go to Pit of Saron, kill all the Elite Trash up to Ick & Krick. Go back to FoS, repeat. Important note, do not kill any bosses.

Should this work?

Anyone dare to guess how long it takes for one to drop? I'm contemplating using this as a way to make money (not a great way, but it's more fun this way). There are like 3 super expensive items I want to buy for my group ... and I might keep one for team 2 which will be certain to have at least one melee DPS toon in it.

well i ran both every day on Heroic for 8 weeks and never seen it drop. and it has to be heroic for it to drop no hilt in normal

random is random unfortunately.
seems it's marked at ~0.1% drop chance from elite mobs in ICC heroics.

# mobs in FoS before James Brown? not sure, 35-40 maybe?
# mobs in PoS without killing Gar/Ick, 25 maybe?

i have no idea how to calculate the odds; I guess it's not as simple as (25+35)*0.1=6% as each mob has a separate 0.1% chance, it's not cumulative..
Maths adepts will be able to help you there i'm sure.

Statistical odds cumulative are summed by nature, so if it is .1% to drop, cumulative that would be 1000 attempts, however, it could potentially, however extremely not likely, take (infinity - 1) attempts. Such is the nature of statistics.

But yea I farmed for it on my old 4x Shaman 1x Druid every day for like 2 months. 0 drops. F that.

not really worth farming when you can get something just as good off the first boss in ICC.

Ah yes statistics. Looking forward to taking that class. I was doing a similar thing back in BC with the crimson whelpling pet. It too had a 1/1000 drop rate, but I think I got it at around the 500 plus or minus 50 kill. Just keep at it.

How much are hilts on your server? They are 6k here. I don't know why anyone would pay 6k for anything now that Cata is out soon.

Saw one for 5K, but seems crazy, as in 2 months they'll be worth nothing, no?

I'd like to get one to drop just to do the quest/achievement and see how it does on a melee toon.

i got one of these on my rogue a while back....still haven't done the questline to get it yet, since i've been working on gearing up 7 toons first
