Default Anybody have Adobe CS5 that could help answer a few questions?

Any chance somebody here has CS5? I have a few questions such as with Adobe Premiere, as well as if Adobe has a desktop video capture software.

Adobe Captivate has this ability I believe. It is included in the Master Collection.

Oh god, so adobe has multiple softwares which all do video editing? Which should I use?

Also, is anybody good at Sony Vegas 8.0? I have that too. I'd rather not drop $2600 on an adobe software if I don't need it, but I'm getting pretty desperate.

I use Adobe Premiere for my videos. I am no expert by any means, though, but if I knew what you needed, I might be able to help. For desktop capture, I think there are freeware out there if you need to do simple stuff, like for example educational videos on how to set things up etc...

Any chance I could teamviewer (view your desktop) and watch how you do things for a video? Like maybe just shadow you and watch you do your next video? Like... tomorrow?

Tim....try Software training online-tutorials for Adobe, Microsoft, Apple & more for tutorials. $25/month, but you can learn just about ANYTHING there.

If you need help with sony vegas pro I'm sure I could help. I've mainly used vegas pro for an encoder and audio video muxer in the past but with some practice you can do some really amazing things.

Here's a video i made using vegas pro in Febuary last year. I messed up on this one just a bit by not cutting the timeline properly for the intro but otherwise it's a full 1080 HD youtube video encoded with xvid which accomplished my goals for that project. usually i try to find a song then cut the video to the exact length of the audio. Iron maiden was just too tempting with this video lol.

YouTube - The Riddle of Steel Nazgrel-US vs. Val'kyr Twins warrior POV

I don't produce a lot of videos or very often however I managed to do the video and audio separately then mux them together to make the final video

I don't know how to do many special effects yet but using the timeline and effects in vegas pro I'm sure I could pickup again in a few hours. I mostly used fraps to capture the video but it doesn't matter what you capture with as long as the codec used from the raw input is usable by vegas pro.

For me at least the easiest and most standard method with the overall best results has always been to use fraps and sony vegas pro. Fraps capture files may be large but after encoding you re-gain 70% of the space used if you delete the raw fraps source. Sony Vegas also works so much better with raw video as opposed to already re encoded video sources. The end results are often far better as well.

Since i wasn't planning on using any in game audio in my videos I effectively saved a ton of disk space by not using fraps to capture audio. Fraps is also ideal because you do have the ability to lock the capture framerate to NTSC spec which results in higher quality video after encoding and it saves as raw video.

I admit this may not be desirable because your game framerate is locked but this is very ideal for creating professional quality video projects from screen captured video sources. Youtube also requires audio and video to be a certain format and bitrate or your whole project is just a wasted effort.

If you capture at 60+fps and have to encode video to meet specs required for youtube at ntsc framerates your encoding operation is just dropping frames which will not look as crisp and fluid. video capturing at higher than ntsc framerate is also just a wholesale waste of disk space.

Some of my older videos from burning crusade era are on my youtube channel which were created using mostly the same steps. The resolution of my display back then wasn't the greatest but I still keep them as treasured reminders of days since past and a reminder of how a good video can look for production value with no special effects.

My favorite is most likely the doomwalker video or doom lord kazzak because of the wow player members in attendance. Getting an opportunity to attend a raid event with one of the top ten guilds world wide at the time, still be alive at the end of the encounter and produce a half decent video was an honor. Yes those guys were "the roguebow guild" that gave the legendary bow from sunwell to the lead rogue in they're guild.
For me the song makes the video

The 1080 HD movie was done a little differently due to muxing each encoded source together after. The main reason for doing this was I had to use 64bit sony vegas pro and there was no 64bit mp3 codec available at the time. If you use a 64bit edition you must have 64bit codecs you wish to use. The reverse scenario applies for 32bit applications on a 64bit OS as well. 32bit apps will not recognize 64bit codecs.

Interesting... I'd forgotten Vegas was on version 10 pro already

you can download a demo of it here

i was watchin your broadcast vid from this morning tim. the issue you were having with camstudio is likely that you have xvid codec unconfigured which resulted in the 2fps screen capture. It doesn't matter that divx codec isn't displayed because xvid is open source divx and just as capable if not moreso than the proprietary divx codec.

Also you were running the capture test but PAL video was selected and it should have been configured for NTSC which likely resulted in frame drops. I'm not intimately familar with camstudio but I've been encoding video with xvid codec for several years.

All video devices built for use in north america are by design native to NTSC specifications. PAL uses a lower framerate and is the widespread native spec for european video and devices. having the xvod codec set to PAL likely forced camstudio to bottleneck because xvid was trying to transcode video from NTSC to PAL.

Using xvid codec would generally be ideal if you can setup the codec options with the correct encoding levels, profile and video spec. The profile you intend to use will largely effect the quality and results. you have mentioned wanting to use AVI but some awareness of what AVI is in the grand scheme of things will prove very useful.

AVI is just a container for your encoded video and audio much like matroska or MKV. each container has certain limitations by desgn. AVI is for the most part more common but is also a legacy format that has limitations on which encoding options you can use to create an avi file. as a result of this it's sometimes preferable to create an mpeg for some high definition video projects.

With this in mind realizing that the codec used does not define which movie file container you will eventually end up with but rather the options used with your desired codec will largely effect what container format and results of your overall video project.

Try another fps test using NTSC video framerate. NTSC spec framerate is 29.97 also make sure you have the latest xvid codec
