Default Any overclocking pros in the crowd?

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about doing a perm overclock on my i975 extreme CPU to 4.6ghz. The problem is I really don't know how to correctly set memory timers and such.

I'm thinking about setting up my video camera to point to my PC monitor, and then broadcast myself configuring the overclock.

But, I really would like to see if somebody could help me through correctly setting the BIOS, memory timings/voltages, etc.

I have Gigabyte EX58-UD5 which is a beast for OC, i975EE, 12GB of some memory with big heatsinks on it (I forgot), and a HUUUUGE CPU heatsink with fans on it.

So, any people who could help with the OC? If so, lets line up a time and do it!

I found this forum forums.tweaktown.com in the gigabyte section to be very helpful overclocking with a gigabyte board. There are a few members there who know their stuff and are willing help.

I am still a noob to overclocking, but isn't 4.6GHz on air pushing it? I would think temps would be too high for 24/7 usage unless you are watercooling. I know some people have done 4.0GHz on air but backed it down due to heat problems.

and overclocking with that much memory will be tricky, but it is not impossible
Just read the stickies at the tweaktown forum in the gigabyte section and go for it

here is a beginners guide to i7 overclocking Core i7 Overclocking Guide For Beginners - Clunk's Forums.

good luck and have fun

A consideration.

Not everything will overclock to the same degree.
One i7 975 might be stable at 4.6ghz with a given set of settings/configuration, and the same settings might fry another.

Push the system up slowly, in small increments.

I've pumped it up to 5.2ghz on my system, and it ran, but would die due to memory not getting enough voltage. OC'd the CPU is easy, but the memory timings and voltages, I just don't know enough about that.

This is definitely the modification my PC needs.

I would mod that mod to include a mattress under it and a lever to press so I could just lay down, let the beer pour, and pwn some gnomes.
