Well, I am now running VMWare + Ubuntu. That way I will be protected when I am working on your project.

Cheers!

How ironic that this, of all threads, get spammed by a bot.

I run Firefox with AdBlock and NoScript in a Virtual Machine, BTW.

The thing with the virtual machine is, do frequent resets, then you don't have to worry about adblock/noscript, since you are very protected.

I was making a bit of a joke. I really do use both of those add-ons, but it's mostly to hide or remove annoying ads that have lots of high-contrast animation and flashing graphics. I allow a lot of content through that I ordinarily would worry about, because I know I can nuke it all if anything goes wrong.

I have run windows 3.1, windows 95, windows 98, windows xp, and currently windows 7. (I didn't like vista, stayed away from it). I have always had a firewall, and antivirus on all systems of some sort. Some viruses may have gotten through but nothing too serious like a full system wipe, or memory nuke (or something similar). Neither have I been hacked in wow from when I used windows 98 at that time I didn't have an authenticator, I just wasn't stupid. I later got paranoid and got an authenticator, and shortly upgraded to windows 7. I didn't get hacked. From the time I knew adons existed I have used an auto downloader from curse, or wow matrix before that. I have never been hacked. I download all sorts of files through various methods that may cause harm to my computer, sometimes I block the odd "virus" or "malware"... I HAVE NEVER BEEN HACKED!

Whats my secret? I don't give out my information, I don't bend over and allow myself to be violated. I use things like antivirus programs that are trusted, firewalls, no-script addons for web-browsers, and I seldom click on banners even from trusted sources merely cause i'm not interrested in what they have to offer, even if it is T11 gear sets (which I can only imagine is bull crap since its phishing sites to get you to enter your pass and login information.) Also I don't respond to offers to transfer toons for gold, buy mounts for gold, or similar offers since they all require you to give them your information. And those people I imagine open themselves to get hacked. I don't know if they do get hacked but I do know they need your information cause I asked one seller who was offering realm transfers for a few K of gold. Or more I believe.

So yeah, don't be dumb, and you prevent getting hacked.

Authenticators are now protected from keyloggers since you now only need to enter it once per computer. If a hacker gets your login information and your password, he won't have a way of logging your authenticator since you don't enter it in every time anymore. Very Very Smart on Blizzards side! Kudos Blizzard!

Actually there are quite a bit. Linux virus/trojans that spread virally are a big contributor to some of the largest botnets around, which utilize exploits in apache, mysql, sendmail, etc., to infect, and then spread more infections

But yea, probably not even a 1/10th of 1% of what Windows has.

Linux has alot less in viruses and trojans cause the majority of users don't use Linux. They run windows or Mac. I don't know how many viruses exist for Mac but I know that back in the day, they were non-existent.
