I doubt 4g RAM will make the cut in cataclysm.

Yeah I don't know.. My main window runs up to 1.5GB or RAM use after a while. The slaves, with much lower resolution and the lowest graphics settings take 6-700MB.

I've always recommended, 1GB per client plus 1GB for the operating system.
Not sure that you "need" that much, but the requirements do go up with each expansion.

That's the problem though, it doesn't seem to matter much how much memory I have. I had 6GB, thought that was too little and upgraded to 12GB. The problem is, the new wow version that came with 4.0.1 doesn't work well with the windows memory management system.

If I decide to take a break and start up the clients later, without restarting the computer, the previously cached memory for wow stays cached and wow starts to gobble up more.

I'm running the new WoW with only around 400M of RAM usage in the vanilla area, so it is seemingly typical with pre-4.0 usage. This means 4G would work just fine.

What are you guys seeing specifically?

When I start up my team again after a break, WoW does NOT get that RAM back from Windows. The cache stays at 7-8GB and WoW starts trying to get new RAM to use.
